hey lancer lovers, i need help choosing intake
the thing is i have an A/T and i'm not sure which one is better between CAI, SR and Fuel Injection Performance Kits (FIPK).
can u guys help me choose plz ?
by the way, i live in Manitoba, Canada, which gets really cold up here, it could go as low as -35 to -40C sometimes.

well for starters no CAI's bolt on to an Auto....the AEM CAI can fit but u have to shave something...and cram it in there.

SRI is usually less money, but is about 1 HP less on the dyno....not much of a loss if u ask me..and if u go ghetto and visit ur local hardware store..buy some ducting...u can duct cold air towards the filter like how the little tubing goes from the hood to the filter already...so its close to CAI....but eh, and i have never heard of an FPIK...so i dunno about that.

im still failing to see the difference between the FIPK and a SR...they look the same on the diagrams....i dunno though

i'd get a SR....its much easier to install and there are some good ones out there, INJEN makes the one i see most ppl have on these boards.

It doesnt matter I've checked for FIPK or whatever it is; they dont make it for the lancer only K&N Typhoon which is a butt load of cash! I have this shop which is getting me an OBX Air filter then we are doing our own piping to make a short ram for me; 120 for install and all making of it; which isnt bad at all; of course i probably will install it myself so that will knock off some bucks.

if i get SR, then i should get the evo duct hood too right ? coz SR will suck in the warm air from the engine

Well, there are ways to duct cold air to the SRI, but a hood vent would be the best way to do it if you want. I can't replace hoods in my racing category, so I'm going to use insulated ducting from underneath the car.

hmmm....anyways...thx u all for advices, i just wanna point out one thing that if i get CAI, the filter would be down by the front bumper and when it rains, the filter might be wet and it might suck the moisture in...and i dont want that to happen, thats what i think tho, im not sure if it'd be as i think....
what u guys think ?

kandN makes a short ram that has a heat sheild and it uses the stock hood duck to put the air right into the intake looks pretty dope too and i hear it sounds mean

I've been meandering about this forum since about June and I've yet to hear anything about the CAI sucking in water. But, if you want to go with the CAI make sure you carry your stock air filter (or a SR) around so that when it does rain you can just change them out and never worry. My .02
