porting your own parts?

i have seen quite a lot of shops do port jobs but out of curiosity, can this be done on your own? if so what is required and are there specifications ? for example i want to port my own o2 and manifold.

I would agree with the small components like you did mention that are easy and inexpensive to replace. Theres only one way to learn/get better right.

what about the gaskets? would i have to port match those since it would be pointless, they would just restrict air flow as well?

Port the turbo side of the ex manifold out to match the gasket, it is a very easy thing to do. The head side is already gasket matched.

It absolutely can be done on your own, depending on how much coin you have to spend there are many different hings you can do to port out whatever part you are working on but something as basic as a dremmel can do the job.

As said in the thread already if porting is something that you are going to be taking a stab at then practice makes perfect and using low cost parts as the guinea pig is a great idea.

Grab yourself a air die grinder and gasket match.

Its easy if you take your time, as said before the mani and the o2 would be very easy. Just take your time and do it right.

get a pair of calibers (aka veniers) to measure as you go to make sure you do an even job.
