Need some help!!!

Ok so i have had my Evo 8 for about a year now and i love it... Has basic bolt ons, TBE, intake, and IC piping, also it is NOT tuned... As of recently when i go WOT my boost gauge reads 21lbs, and my car starts to sputter and break up really bad and i can see some black smoke coming out of my exhaust. Now obviously i understand this cant be good.... I guess my question is does anybody know what the problem could be.... Do i need a tune??? should i change my plugs?? Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks

you should get a tune, i would check your plugs before you do get a tune though.

i would defiantly check for a boost leak before i went out and wasted my tuners time. a tune won't fix a mech. problem and boost leaks will make u run rich (black smoke)

Definitely check the spark plugs, I had a similar problem and when they were replaced with the OEM spark plugs, my car ran perfect without a single sputter again.

i would just get a tune... its the best thing you could do to the car. i would check for boost leaks, plugs, gap, etc. before getting the tune also so you dont have to worry about it when it gets on the dyno and runs like crap! the tune will be a waste of money unless the cars running properly...

what are you smoking, crack?
that is the worst advice, that is no where near where any evo should be gapped

OP, tighten all of your ic pipes and check for leaks, pull your spark plugs and inspect them and check the gap and replace if necessary. then get your car tuned otherwise you wasted your money buying parts that just make your car loud and just as fast as a stock evo

Most people gap between .020-.026, depending on setup.

Here is what the manual says.

He said "mm", ie millimeter, not inches.

.54mm is .021 inches.
