Evo VIII 05 16k good deal?

the clutch was replaced at 30k its 1 owner 55k miles, hks bov, swift sport springs and exhaust for 16k what you guys think? It doesnt look like any other mods have been added and talen off but im no expert. I know the clutch is early but its common that these clutchs go out early sometimes right?

If the clutch was replace at 30k it just come to show you how much the car was beat on from the previous owner. Just because its has hks bov, swift spring, and a exhaust doesnt mean that the car was well taken care of. The stock evo clutch has proven to hold up to 80k-100k before it need to be change. If i were you i wouldnt buy it.

yea but what about the clutches that went out at 3k miles? their clutches have been known to be unpredictable in durability so to say he beat the hell out of it at 30k Im not to sure that would be correct in this case.

Just because the clutch had to be replaced doesn't mean it was beat on. What if the original driver was learning to drive standard on it? I've seen clutches go because of people learning to drive.

Granted I blew my stock clutch at the drag strip....

However, if it were me this is what I'd do....

1) I'd check the carfax on it.
2) Take it for a test drive.
3) Pop the hood and look around.
4) If you decide you like it, ask if you can have a mechanic of your choosing inspect it. At least this way you know what you will be buying.

Okay even if the previous owner was learning to drive standard, just imagine how many time he/she stall the car, that a sign of not good. and yes have a mechanic take a look at it

I didn't say it was good. Stalling a car...is bad for the battery (and maybe the starter, which are both wear items anyway).

The clutch can go due the lack of control (like revving it high to get moving or letting the clutch out to abruptly etc). Now if you were grinding gears, that would be a different story.

Anyways, to OP, good luck

hey what kind of mechanic would you recommend and what should he inspect/look for with this car? I didnt see any leaks under the car, it boosts well over 3k, clutch delivers well...

Not sure how much more gsr's go for over rs' these days but in early August of last year I got my 05 RS with 46k miles on it for 16k. It had a CF hood, trunk, cf wing, apr mirrors, sub, amps, flip up deck, boost gauge, etc. It also came with the all of the stock parts except for the mirrors and the stock deck so I don't know if the whole, "aftermarket parts make the value go down," thing applies here. Anyways, yeah I would do a few things before you buy the car.

1. Check the Carfax history, it might not show everything that has happened to a car but it could save you from buying a lemon.
2. Take it for a test drive, does anything weird happen? Do all of the ACD lights in the gauge cluster stay on at the same time? Test the AC/heat.
3. Listen for any odd sounds, Evos are loud but it shouldn't sound like something is about to break.
4. Lastly, if you like the car enough, take it to a dealership or someone that knows Evos and have them check it out.

What? Unpredictable in durability? They're pretty predictable, alright. It's the guy who can't drive you can't count on.
