Wink I want your opinions on this 04!

So im in a market for 05/04 with 400-500 range hp as my goal.
then i came across this evo for sale with rebuilt motor

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
for sale is my 2004 lancer evo VIII ssl. It kills me to let it go and i never thought i would but due to changes at work it must be done.

this car has never been drag raced, never launched; its been my weekend driver and built for fun at auto-x. the car was tuned by dent sport garage putting down 291whp on their Dyno Dynamics® AWD Dynamometer (remember its load bearing so the hp numbers are significantly lower than normal dynojets) and passed ri state inspection in july of this year. car holds 19 psi to redline, no boost taper.

the car currently has 55,*** miles on it, the engine was fully rebuilt at 48,*** miles. always ran mobil 93 octane gas, always mobile1 synthetic oil. driveline fluid regularly changed with amsoil corresponding driveline fluids. the front bumper and hood show signs of rock chips, the car has a few minor scratches, nothing deep. it needs a good buff. the carbon wing has been re-cleared. overall id call the paint a 7 out of 10. interior is a 9 out of 10.

heres the engine build: lemmy's 4g63 build so far..

it seems like the guy knows what he is doing with the rebuild. low boost. conservative tune.
would this be a good car to possibly purchase?

how much would you offer for the car?
i want your opinions please.
any comments/ suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks!

I got my 04 SSL for $19k with 83k miles.
Yes I probably overpaid, but it was a few years ago and it was completely stock which I liked and in great condition.

Personally, I'd get a stock evo and mod it from there. I'm also a bit confused about how this evo has less than 300whp with cams.

Please find out why the engine was rebuilt along with who did the final tuning because he never mentioned any of that.

so my timing belt tensioner **** the bed causing my tb to skip a bunch of teeth.
i was driving to work, on the highway around 3500 rpm- all of a sudden i hear multiple loud taps followed by what i can only describe as a handful of ball bearings passing through my engine. i immediately shut it down, towed it home etc..

he also says

Tuned by DSG http://www.dentsport.com/ in norwood mass via ecu flash and the apex-i avcr boost controller

thanks for the comments guys. keep them coming!
im seriously considering the purchase but i want to find out if the car is worth purchasing!!
thanks again

This is a hard one, cause everyone who decides to modify there car would love to get what they put in it. Unfortunatley no matter how many thousands of dollars you put into your car and let's say the KBB says it's worth 18500.00 in excellent condition, you will be glad to get 18k, nevermind the fact you put 5, 10, or even 15k into if, yes you will find 1 out of 1000 people who would consider paying a little more but not to many. My suggestion like the previous guy stated, find out why he rebuild the motor? Did he blow the last one, also be weary when ppl who say **** like never abused, babied, pampered, highway miles, never launch etc. Cause let's me honest, not to many conservative 40 year old secretarys own these cars. Also get a car fax, I bought my EVO 9 from a guy in his late 40's I was lucky. However I still got a car fax. Good luck.

OK well that cleared a couple of things up for me. Its interesting to hear of the tensioner failing with that little miles. Sounds a little sketchy to me...I see that the engine was assembled at a different place then DSG. Who did the dissasembly and reinstallation?

Lots to red flags on this--your just looking past them--, low miles= major rebuild, no custom tune-- he says low boost, mild tune, never raced, never launched--yet he is out a motor and it was a major rebuild, not just valves and a valve job. Did he tell you why he is selling after investing all this cash-- I would walk away. Then agin you are thinking you need 4-500 hp at the start--I am thinking this guy did too.

well, i will be building the motor anyways. so why not buy one thats already built??

run a compression test, a test drive, and i dont know. is it even worth looking at??
rebuilt motor is more reliable than stock motor right? esp if im planning on getting a new turbo

Is the current tune on the car after the rebuild also from DSG? Personally I would stay away from the car for various reasons. If you do purchase the car I would recommend having a reputable shop look over it and freshen up the tune.

wouldnt it better to just buy a car with built motor already for the same price than to buy one with stock motor for the same price??
