Looking to buy an EVO 9 - SE or MR model???
people have told me that between 400-450 is cool, as long as you don't thrash your car. i have a MR and i'm in the same boat as you, i think 400-450 is cool. if you want a lot of power, just go SE, almost same thing, just only difference is the tranny, suspension, gauges, the little wickerbill on the spoiler, and badges. good luck!
I'd highly suggest driving both to develop an opinion. I have the MR w/ appearance package (MR SE) so I have the looks of the SE but with the 6-speed, Zero Lift and Bilsteins. I really don't like the 5-speed as my commute always puts me right between 4 and 5 on the 5-speed and that's a HUGE jump in gearing. With my 6-speed, I can go between 4, 5 and 6 with no "empty" spot where I'm out of boost with no power.
And, FWIW, I'm making around 390hp on the 6-speed and have never had an issue with it. I've put around 48k on it, with most of those being over 340hp. I've done track days and 4 seasons of autocross.

IMO go with the SE. It has nicer seats, wheels, and 5spd. If your wanting to make 450-500 your definitely gonna want the 5spd gear box.
I was lucky to find an EB SSL IX. Kinda stubbled on it and I like all the options. If I were to buy another IX I'd definitely look for an SE though. I have the SE front lip on my SSL and it looks MUCH better than the stock GSR and MR lip.
I've never driven an MR but I can't imagine the bilstein's being that much better than the stock struts on other EVO models...maybe I'm wrong.
But good luck finding an SE! MR's are everywhere and not hard to find.
