Please everyone i need your advice/help!!!

Hey guys looking for some advice. Few weeks ago I got the dreaded 5th gear grind. FML. I took it to Mitsubishi, they test drove it and just like I assumed syncro, however though I had no warranty left, so I did the next best thing and took it to my dealership where I bought the car and where I was still under their 6 month 6000mi warranty. I dropped off the car and they said they’d call me when they get some time to look at the car. Next day I get a call and they say there is nothing wrong. They tell me to come and drive the car with one of their “Techs”. Grinded once, it grinded every time I went into 5th before I dropped off the car to them. I’m pissed. I don’t know if the “Techs” did something to make the grind go away temporally or what. Long story short they said they won’t cover it because it doesn’t happen all the time. Bull**** it happened every time I went into 5th before they got their grimy hands on it. I told them I’d put my money where my mouth is and have them drop the trans and pull the syncro and if it was bad have them replace it if not it was coming out my pocket. Also their towing the car to a Mitsubishi dealer and having them do all the work. What I’m trying to get at guys was this a smart idea on my part? I mean Mitsubishi drove the car and they themselves said it grinded. Your thoughts guys??? I have a day before they tow the car.

They could have switched the fluid to avoid a costly repair. Hopefully they wouldn't do something like that, but sometimes switching to something like BG synchromesh can temporarily reduce grinding.
