Buying an Evo MR

I know there are tons of threads asking what you guys do for a living to afford the Evo's. My question sort of relates. I'm not asking what job I should get to afford one, more like, alternate options to save money or things of that sort. I just joined the military so I have a job for the next 4 years.

you shouldn't have much in terms of housing/food costs depending on what you're going in as, but cooking your own meals instead of going out to eat or buying heat and eat type stuff is a good way to save. if you have to foot your own housing bill, think about what your real needs are. i'm 25, single, and trying to save up to buy my own house so i'm just renting a small house right now (still prob bigger than what i really need) and putting what i would be paying for a nice place back into the "downpayment fund"

just set yourself up a budget, make sure to factor in something for unforeseeables, save up 2-3 months worth of expenses in case you hit bad times and go from there. theres no need to add more stress on your life worrying about money just to have a certain car... esp when you could always pick up an 8 or 9.

Wait till after your mos school or soi if you haven't already completed... I don't know if you just dep'ed in or what.

If you have a bonus coming you won't get it till you complete your mos. schooling.

Don't rely heavily on this money.

Play it safe save up for one used and buy it from a repo or auction if you can. If your knowledgeable about cars you should get far make it a project if you can if its within your means. Nothing worse than having a payment over your head. People who are getting their cars repoed can be a good thing for you but bad for them sorry to say that. You can just make a deal with the bank and take over the payments.

I really don't have any expenses besides my phone bill, but then again I'm just an e-1 and not getting a bonus. Oh, btw, I'm not in DEP. I already went through basic and I'm in tech school (MOS school) I'm in the USAF. about the 8 or 9. Aren't they still like a good 25k?

To save like I did before I bought my house (for the record I don't save anymore) only buy what you NEED and DONT buy what you WANT. Wasn't that easy?

I waited till I was an E-5 before I went and got my VIII, that way I knew that I would have no problem making payments, I have seen many E-1 -E-3 go broke because they bought a car that they couldn't pay for,or were not smart about buying it, and they either had to sell it or had it repoed. like everyone else said budget yourself, and I would wait till you are out of tech school and get stationed somewhere, that way you can get settled and know what you will be paying for. Then you can see what you can pay as a car payment and don't forget to factor in the insurance for it. and no the VIII and IX are not that much for the most part they are 20K and Below.

Oh, I'm definitely waiting until I'm out of tech school. I should be out by March if there aren't any delays and then off to Hurlburt Field. Also, how much would be a good (decent) down payment for a 20k car?

Oh and for the record, I'm single, no extra expenses there ;D

I did not intend any condescension with regards to where you were in your enlistment. Just trying to figure out how far along you were so I could offer the most applicable information.

Talk to your bank/credit union and have them calculate a debt ratio on the loan amount you are considering.

Or search how to figure it up. It is simple.

Absolutely don't borrow until it fits your budget.

Just because a bank is willing to lend doesn't automatically mean you can afford it. e.g. The housing crisis.

You may already know all of this. Hope it is helpful.
