Lightbulb new 2003 GSR owner :-)

i just got the account here...i know that this is the place to go for Evo questions :-D

2 days ago i bought my first Evo...it is the car of my dreams! I have test driven a bunch and i was very pleased with the way this one felt/rode. Before i bought it, i did alot of research in my area about finding a really good deal for the price, and i believe that it was THE best deal in the Midwest! Basically i am pretty confident with my purchase.

The body is pretty good...original red (rally red?) paint, only a few small chips/scratches here and there. 18in rims...everything else is stock. It only had 27,500 miles when i got it, and it certainly looked like it had been taken car of. No rips, stains or tears on the inside...cosmetically this thing is good to go

However i am not 100% sure about all of the modifications. My sig should have a list of them.

Also, i got Dunlop Instinct ZR all-season tires. I had 2 mechanics look at it and both said that the brake pads need to be replaced...1 said they were at 5% life left. However, i already have a Ford Fusion for long trips...the brake pads on that are around 50% with 16k miles, and they look almost identical to the Evo's. Pics would be nice to see of used and new pads. I am planning on getting Hawk Performance Ceramic Pads...the Evo is going to be a sort of daily driver, definitely no racing on a track, and only slightly spirited driving occasionally.

Any input or helpful comments would be fantastic!

The bov hisses? weird

Was the cat removed and a test pipe put in on the stock exhaust?

Maybe you could post some pictures of what you are not sure of.

yeah ok i am taking pictures tonight, should have them up by the end of tomorrow.

as for the test pipe question, idk. I will try to get a picture of underneath too.

But as for the BOV thing i said, i am not actually sure if it is a BOV, or it might be a "bleed off" MBC. You guys will see in the pics that there is a thing attached to the top-nose side of some engine block wires...looks like a mini cold air intake. I was really sleepy at the time...had to drive it 11+ hours home and i have basically been sleeping for a day and a half...so i could be wrong with exactly where it is.

I can completely relate

Post pictures of everything you are not sure about. There are plenty of knowledgeable people here that can identify them for you. Good to know what quality mods you have installed.

but yeah, there is a mini CAI looking thing attached to the engine case. Might be able to see it

I'm guessing your hissing is the turbo spooling. My FP Red makes turbo whine even in vacuum.

From the looks of it I'm guessing you got a stock Evo IX bov (Ideal for mildy modified Evos)

The turbo spools pretty quick at 80mph so my guess too is that's what you're hearing. Doesn't take much to hear it spool at those speeds.

I've owned red cars in the past. Save yourself the trouble and have someone else buff and wax your car

Get the car into some better lighting (outside during the day?) and lay off the Redbull. Your hand is shaking the camera in the first engine picture. lol Just giving you a hard time

hehe like i said i was tired! I live in central wisconsin and the evo is from central michigan...looong drive!

And yeah, it is tough work keeping it clean. Took me about an hour to make sure that i washed it right (didn't want ice to build up, it is cooold). I still gotta clean the inside, and i plan on wiping my rims every week at least (i don't ever brake very hard on my own...maybe 1 moderate use of the brake every other day or so due to a REALLY dumb driver).

Basically this thing will be my pet. :-)

Looks like a 1g BOV from the bolts on the aftermarket UICP (Could be Buschur Racing) a mini battery and a BR air intake, not bad, you may have a treasure chest under your hood

yeah the battery is a smaller aftermarket battery, and i was informed by the previous owner that there was previously a stage 1 and 2 from Buschurr racing (from the original owner), but idk if anything else was tuned by them...in any case the clutch was replaced with the stage 4 one in my sig

I just wiped the brake dust off of my rims for the first time. Fun fact: rims get shiny when you do that XD
