Exhuast Smell

Ok Just started to notice this.. could be me.. IDK.
Scenario....

I have an 06 Evo IX MR. Full works TBE so Downpipe, High flow Cat, and there Cat back.. When I am driving normal don't notice it. But if I go WOT (mind you this is with my heater on) I can smell exhaust. Sorry if this is a stupid question. I never noticed this before. I looked under the car and didnt' notice anything out of the ordinary I am really wanted to get rid of the CAT and going to a test pipe just haven't done it yet. Could my CAT be falling apart? I notice alot of black residue on my rear bumper..

Thanks for reading.. Just curious. My AFR's look fine and my tune seems to be ok log wise..

Yah but when I goose it I get a pooof of smoke pretty sure from the cat. Might just gut it or go test pipe. Just a pain with inspection.

you have an exhaust leak... i had the same problem a few months ago and i had a leak from my exhaust manifold. do a boost leak down and tighten things up.

I will check the Manifold... I am not boosting any less.. So boost gauge is reading the same. I will check the mani and tighten things down.

if it were the cat, you wouldn't smell it because the cat sits under/behind the cabin and those fumes will be evacuated to the rear of the car. it's most likely somewhere under the hood at your manifold, 02 housing, wga, etc. i've got the same problem, just haven't had time to fix it. it'll be getting taken care of tomorrow though.

+++^^, removing the cat isnt going to change anything--in most cases it increases the exhAUst smell--in your case a different story.

Just because your boosting the same doesnt mean you dont have leaks anywhere.. It will still boost the same but the turbo will compensate for the leaks but blow hotter air because its trying to boost even more then you have it set at.

I had that problem when I didn't have a good seal between the cat and the catback. Usually, if you inspect carefully you can find black soot where it's leaking.
