Buying first Evo, need some pointers.
Well I have been looking for a good evo 8/9 for awhile now and finally came to one for sale up in Calgary but my question is: is it worth it?
Used 2005 MITSUBISHI EVOLUTION for Sale In CALGARY, AB - 3767877 - autoTRADER.ca
I already have an accepted offer plugged in but what sorts of things would I look for that may be going wrong? Do you guys think this is a good deal, as this is the only Evo I have seen for sale in a long time I am not 100% sure on the price here. Any help is appreciated thank you!

Read this thread as another fellow Calgarian also asked the same sorts of questions.

I wrote a lot about my experiences owning a IX in Canada (pros/cons) so check it out!

Also be careful looking at modded Evo's as you don't know what they have been through. Make sure the owner has all the documentation to go with the car and check that it isn't a Salvage/Rebuilt vehicle as many Evo's have this title (hense the extremely cheap price of some).
The one you are looking at seems a bit cheap for Canadian standards, but look into it!

Well I will be getting an SUV for winter so this is my summer vehicle :P, yea I have been asking about it but she said that nothing was wrong with it at all, plus Western Canadas road conditions are much better then Eastern as the East uses salt in the winter. I will ask her some more questions though it just sucks because it's hard to find an evo 8/9 that I like. If I could find stock I would get it :P.
that car has some quality parts on it for sure. part of the reason it is cheap will be the fact that its so heavily modded, especially when it comes to a trans swap.
make sure you check for receipts, drive the car, talk to the shop (if any) that did the work, and have a evo mechanic take a close look at it.
the only thing that would concern me would be the fact that since its so heavily modded, why the tranny swap? obviously thats a sweet built tranny built for abuse, but if thats the case then make sure the first one wasnt grenaded bc of abuse, which could lead to a bad diff/transfer case. transfer case would be quick to go, and not cheap to fix.
also take a careful look/feel with the clutch. check for regular maintenance receipts as well an get the specs of everything changed out. otherwise it could be a good buy. if not, i am sure you can find another one if your patient, gl!

I wish I had the time and money to do all that. Driving/talking to the owner, ect. I don't really have the time to do that as I live a province away and I don't really have spare cash to spare on road trips at the moment. I might have to look around more maybe..

I'm guessing the did a lot of heavy mods on the car and therefore blew the stock 6 speed tranny and an replaced it with the 5 speed afterwards. Modded Evo's are always a pain to inspect and get checked up by a mechanic considering how few there are in Canada and not many mechanics know the car well.
Take your time and find the right one for you, as if you plan to buy a mint condition Evo in Canada, be prepared to spend at least $25-30000 as that seems to be the going rate for one in top shape with relatively low kms. Anyone asking lower than that and I would raise some red flags.
I remember a guy selling a Evo 8 converted to 9 on auto trader for $20 000 and I found out it was a Salvage vehicle after talking to the owner.
Ahh yea, I think i'm going to try and look for one as close to stock as possible. I just need to find a new job before I can buy a new car anyway. Wish I didn't walk out on my last job but when your boss has the IQ of a goldfish the irritation grows haha.
My friends going there this weekend so i'll ask him to check it out, but I am not sure if I just want to go almost completely stock to stay safe for the safety inspection.
