Evo 8 blown clutch

So the previous owner of my evo dogged the clutch and I'm paying the price now. It's been on the verge of going out for a little while.. I just got the money for a new one and went to db tuned in Sac and they told me to stay away from Exedy cerametallic stage 2 clutch.. Little did I kno that's a race clutch. So I'm asking what is a good clutch for my evo, which is my daily driver. Something durable and catches smoothly.

If you are going to mod, get a better clutch. I like my HDSS.

If you are staying stock, the stocker is a great clutch.

I don't know about the stocker being a great clutch, I usually respect your opinion...but I guess I wouldn't really know, I started modding my Evo at 6000 miles. Stock clutch lasted 16k miles and slipped on the dyno.

*edit* I wouldent really know how the stock clutch is seeing how i bought my evo with the clutch going out. As in 4RETECH can tell you how much of a turn it is atm.

I still don't think the stock clutch is worth a d***, i know some have had them last a long time, others much less then me. For my piece of mind if I did leave my car stock, I would give up the couple hundred bucks over the stocker to know it would last longer. I remember hearing of failures at 6k miles, not so great in my opinion.

Driver error there partner. 340/365tq on my stock clutch and I have 47k miles with multiple road race track days. Stop launching like the car like it is a drag car, then blaming it on "the clutch that isn't worth a damn"

While you're replacing the clutch, you might as well get an Exedy Stage 1 or something like that for your future mods

Okay. Well I definitely plan on doing mods. But a little more info about my car, it's completely stock other than a short ram intake and it's an MR edition. This is my first evo, hence the noob forum lol, but as far as getting an HDSS will it fit onto an MR and do I need a new flywheel or can I just resurface it. If I can, will I encounter any problems by resuracing my flywheel? Just looking out for my car.

I've launched my car +- 300 times at 5800rpm. 330hp/340tq on a dynojet, 3 auto-x, lots of 1/8 mile drag, 1 track day, 77,000 miles with no slipping- same OEM clutch that I've had since 2 miles on the odometer when the car was brand new.

Yes, it will work with your MR. The flywheel would have to be inspected to be certain if you can reuse it or not. I myself just got a flywheel, came in the gruppe-s kit

Please note: ACT HDSS does have lock out at very high RPM, so if your going to drag rac, this clutch is not for you. It does hold power though.

As for stock clutches guys, and I know no one here believes me, my clutch lasted 209K, but I don't launch and drive highway. Think about it, I shift into fifth and drive for about 50 miles at a time,LOL.

Okay. So is there any clutch kit that compete's with ACT HDSS but doesn't have the lock out at high RPM?

Go for an Exedy Twin HD!!! They are a streetable high performance clutch, and when the bug bites to go faster, your clutch will be ready for whatever! My buddy in Buffalo, NY has an Evo 8 with an Exhaust, Hallman Pro and an STM tune that went 12.3@110 with an Exedy Twin. Very respectable time for so little done, and he's driven to the Shootout and DD's it all summer.
