I've developed a pretty good technique for avoiding getting rear ended. When you see that you need to make a stop, get on the brakes hard at first; this causes the cars behind you to brake earlier and you stack them up behind you so to speak. That way, all the drivers behind you are moving slowly and more attentively. I have never been rear ended once driving like this (knock on wood but not really since I want a jdm rear)

I know what you mean, my Evo got rear ended 4 days after I bought it. Only the bumper was damaged and it was a small hit but none the less. It sucked.

 

+1. One time my friend was following me in his 350Z and told me had such a hard time because he always had to brake sooner. His Z had engine mods but no brake upgrades. My Evo has brake lines and aftermarket rotors.

 

It seems like Lotus owners have adopted a third brake light mod same reason. They use a device that makes the third brake light blink at varying intervals, as to capture the attention of those behind them. I've often thought of looking into something similar for our cars.
