New here

Hi my name is George from Oceanside CA, I currently drive a honda s2000 and I will be getting myself a Lancer Evo in the future. I want to learn as much as I can here before I pull the trigger on one to make sure I won't regret the purchase (wrong trim, 6 spd vs 5 spd etc, Evo 8 vs 9 etc)..

I know theres a search feature but if anyone can enlighten me the differences of the cars which I narrowed down to my interest the 8 and 9, and also the trims.

Thanks

It depends on what you want to do and how much you're willing to spend.

That being said, the best one is the Evo IX SE

Yeah I was just reading the sticky for different trims of the car, I'm just planning on driving it daily with occasional spirited driving?? I was leaning more towards the 6spd since coming from a honda 6 spd = good for better acceleration from shorter gears, although this car may be a different story since it's turbocharged. I'll keep learning

That's a misconception. The first four gears are pretty much the same (though the differences aren't really things that you'd really notice). The six-speed does shift a tad more smoothly, but I've never had any problems with the five-speed, and I've owned two of them. What made me stay away from the six-speed both times was the fact that it was generally a more expensive model that really wasn't any faster in realistic situations but still got worse gas mileage (though not by much), despite having a sixth gear and lower top gear rpms. That's not to say that it's a bad transmission, as a lot of MR owners are perfectly happy with their purchase. It just didn't make sense to me.

Thats nice to know. I was just saying in general car manufacturers add a 6th gear to compensate for the shorter gears (for acceleration purposes) so you wont be on 5th gear cruising on a ridiculous rpm. So now that it's not much of a difference then either or is fine with me with an evo

Oh, okay. It's not really necessary since the Evos already hit pretty hard mid-range and are already pulling at 2500-3000 rpm, which contrasts to the NA four-cylinders that need to be way up high.

Just know that coming from an S2000, which I personally felt has one of the best-feeling stick shifts out there, you'll feel like you've gone down a notch with the Evo transmission. It's not bad at all, it's just not as smooth as the S2000's.

It's alright since I'm planning to keep my s2000 haha. If I miss the smooth shifting transmission I'll drive the s
