Unhappy Which muffler is quietest for evo aftmkt?

Hi you all. I have a dilemna. I am interested in installing a 3 inch turbo back exhaust with Hi-flow or test pipe for my evo. I am wondering if maybe some of you know which muffler should I use to sound close to stock but still be able to use the 3 inch system. I am driving a red evo, and I don't need more attention to the car by sounding loud, I just want the flow and performance that you gain by using 3 inch. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
I know some of you use Magnaflow, but I think it is still too loud.

Thanks for your assistance.

I think any 3in turbo back will be very loud compare to the stock. Unless someone makes one with couple of pre-silencers and a non straight through muffler.

Ya know.. Its still going to be louder than stock no matter what you do.. Running a Catalytic converter will quiet it down a bit, you can look into flowmaster or Borla mufflers, however I suspect they will all be fairly loud.

An option is to look at the types of mufflers used in domestic "Muscle cars" like the older Turbo mufflers.. The drawback is the quieter the muffler, the more you sacrifice horsepower and add backpressure.

I wonder what a Flowmaster delta flow muffler would sound like on this car, however I suspect it would sound crappy and still be louder than stock..

turbo-back will definetly be louder.

when i used to own my WRX, i bought the GReddy EVO exhaust. Although it was a cat-back, it was quiet as hell, not much louder than stock. It still gave really good numbers compared to the louder ones. I know you asked for turbo-back, i just wanted to mention other options, just incase.

Fujitsubo Legalis R is pretty quiet, but does not have 3" piping. And any aftermarket exhaust is going to be louder than stock. The OEM exhaust is very quiet. I can barely hear it if my music is up. I think you have some leeway to make it sound louder and gain some power without drawing much attention.

The simplest (and about the only) solution I can think of is to get the regular 3" sytem with the Magnaflow or some other similar muffler and add one of those silencers that go into the muffler tip. This will allow you to run more quietly (with a power loss) and remove it when you want more power........

I have the Forge Motorsports 3 inch turbo back unit and it rocks. It's a modular set up so you decide if you want to put in the cat and resonator, just the cat, just the resonator, or none.

I have it installed with the cat and resonator in place and let me tell you, it is quiet! At idle the sound just has a more low frequency sound to it. It is not until you are at the higher rpm's (above 4k) that it begins to howl noticeably louder than stock. But even when it is howling in the higher rpm's, it is much quieter than any of the other aftermarket pieces I have heard.

btw, I got a 10hp gain from the install also. Theres probably more hp to be had if you don't mind spewing more pollution (noise and air)...ie running without the cat or resonator or both.

I'd highly recommend!

Forge makes a 3" system for mitsu's? I know they use to carry Milltek exhausts systems (which is what you're talking about I assume). I used to have their 2.5" system on my old car and it was really really quiet. Nice deep tone and then a little louder than stock in the upper rpm. If you look at the website now though they carry GHL exhausts. Which I can tell you are far from quiet. Sound mean as hell but far from what you're probally looking for.

SC. is the muffler straight throw. Can you roll a golf ball throw it?

How make the cat. Looks like a great system.

Got of the phone with GHL directly.

Cat is a car sound unit (Maganaflow)

The exhaust has a straight throw muffler but the muffler inner dia. of 2.5. That is the main restriction in the exhaust. Comes with T clamps. It should make good power but you are ultimatly runing a 2.5in exhaust. I'm more then sure this exhaust will support over 350whp on a dyno jet.

The reason they went with a small muffler is for sound quility witch in my mind might be worth the slight resriction.

Thanks alot mates. I really appreciate your replys. I love this car but don't need additional attention to it, if you know what I mean.
Car is very zippy and faster than most just left stock, but I would like to take advantage of the turbo catback systems so I can get that extra 20horses or more. By the way, what type of gain can I expect with 3inch turbo catback, hi flow cats and resonator? No resonator? Keep enjoying your rides guys.

I had the RMR 3inch cat back and it's a little louder than stock 95db vs 88 at around 60mph. It gives it a deeper tone not the coffee can sound. I also installed the HKS downpipe and 3 inch UR(Borla) high flow cat and it sounded sweet a little louder but still acceptable to not draw the attention of every cop for a mile. Not to loud but much better

I have the Forge/GHL unit as well. It is louder than stock. It is a great unit. I agree, it is quieter than many 3" systems. Any 3" system with a straight thru muffler will be louder than stock.

I want stealth silence. I just pulled it off today and put back on the stock system. I will be putting the GHL system up for sale soon. PM me if you are interested.
