EVO X or 2011 WRX Hatch?

I was wondering YOUR thoughts on the matter or deciding between a low low mileage EVO X vs a brand new 2011 WRX Hatch. I know the new WRX got quicker but a buddy says it is a significant step ahead in regards to utility and right on the EVO's bumper in terms of performance, I beg to differ.

Care to discuss? His gripe is that the EVO trunk is the size of an s2000. He is an IST guy that travels a bit for work. I'd like to say the EVO X is still a much more potent performer stock for stock and even bolt on for bolt on forget it.

2011 Evo X? From the latest Road and Track review, the 2011 Evos got even faster. I don't think the WRX would even be in the same ballpark stock for stock. Quarter mile times are 13.0 vs 13.7, and track times would be even farther apart. The Evo is faster in the straights, and faster in the corners. With bolt ons, the gap grows even bigger.

That said, the WRX does have a lot more trunk space and definitely have more utility. In terms of performance though, Evo hands down.

ya who cares about trunk space, ain't no midsize family sedan to carry groceries in, imo. the new '11 wrx's are pretty sweet tho, but no to hatch, if you did the 11 wrx, has to be sedan, and in the blue or white

The new WRXs are butt ugly IMO, so the Evo X would be an easy choice for me.

About a month ago I was in your shoes, only the hatch was not on my radar. What are you looking for in a car? If you want the better performing car an 2011 Evo is your choice, but why are you specifing the sti hatch version? Do you need the extra space? If so your choice is easy.

As good as the wide body 2011 STi's are I would still have to go with the EVO. I still think the evo looks better and like said before has greater potential.

One really cool thing about subies though is that they offer their own performance upgrades that won't void a warranty even their short shifter will not void it.

Well, the trunk space is TINY, especially if you get the RF sound system!!! Really small.. So anything compared to the X's truck is going win hands down as far as space goes. Just go by a dealer and decide for yourself.

Performance wise though is going to be the Evo all day long. Handles much better (Fact), takes to mods much better (Fact), and stock vs. stock power in a straight line is similar, prolly depends on the driver (too close to call for me).

All the responses on here are going to be Pro-Evo though. This is an Evo forum.

Great point that I didn't take into consideration, Subaru is a lot more mod friendly than Mistubishi. My Sti's tranny went out (the reason I traded it in) and it went to the dealership with a AP stage 1 tune and an aftermarket clutch. Not only did they not check the ECU for a tune (rumor is Mistubishi will and can tell if it's been flashed back to stock) They covered up the aftermarket clutch to the higher ups and since it had to be replaced they covered a new one.

FWIW the STI is a nicer car all around. The fit and finish is better and the car is a better daily driver, just a better car. The issue is the Evo X performs better, better high performance vehicle, handles better, and takes to mods WAY, WAY better. The STI motors are made glass, they are un-sleeved, open deck, aluminum blocks that cannot take any detonation. They are harder to work on, have 4 cams, hell spark plug changes are a pain in the a$$.
The Evo will be faster for cheaper and be more reliable in the power upgrade game. The 5 Speed in it while only a 5 Speed is very strong. The STI Six speed is a monster too.

If you plan on Zero mods, the STI, for sure, all you have to do is put up with understeer and if you can do that it is the better car. The Evo will run rings around it with simple BPU.

I saw the new WRXs. They have a bigger trunk but keep in mind that the battery and windshield washer fluid is in the trunk on Evos. The WRXs also have less leg room in the backseat cause of the bigger trunk. Just did the compare side by side the other day. Honestly I ain't a hater so it's up to you on what you want but I hope your friend isn't telling you a WRX can keep up with an Evo. Maybe the STI.

I would have to agree I hope he means sti cause not only is the wrx cheaper it's way slower and ontop of that they aren't even in the same class as far as times ect.
