I definitely agree.

I think my modding days are over. My first car was a 2005 Subaru STi and after modding that car, I told myself, actually, I told my wife that that would be enough modding for me.

The Evo has a nice conservative tune, so I don't plan to change that.

If you plan on leaving it stock then yes. If you plan to make upgrades then keep the Evo.
It would most likely stay stock.

Hell if its almost paid off why not pay it off and then get the Skyline in addition to........... Is that too greedy?
And take the pleasure from someone else who can have a blast with it? I'm not that cruel.

I'd like to hear some opinions from anyone who's had/have both and whether they drive one more than the other and why. Anyone?

no way, i am not a fan of gt-r's in any way. they dont look all that great in my opinion and would be ery hard to get rid of an evo 9.

I agree with most here. The Evo will offer a lot more fun for tons less money. Not just in "upgrades" but think about if something were to go out (like a water pump, alternator, etc..) the price on those parts for the GT-R will be ridiculous!!
Save the extra money, work on the Evo's suspension, power, looks (in that order) and you will have WAY more fun in the end! I for one have seen some way sexier Evo's than GT-R's

I voted no... but really it depends. I guess for a car that won't see the track, won't be heavily modified, and isn't daily driven the GT-R may be worth it. I personally would rather keep the Evo and use the extra cash for mods/track time. If you are just scooting around windy roads and have the money, pick whichever one you like the looks of more. Paddle shifters are lame though.

My cost on the fluids alone is $962.46, minus the labor charges. Given their strict regiment over servicing, I just bit the bullet and took it to them.

The MR is not a DD, so the GT-R that will replace it will not be a DD. All for pleasure.

The MR is almost paid off, clean, and low miles, but a GT-R is very tempting.

Here's what I have going:
Evo IX MR Graphite Grey
  • Cheaper
  • Almost Paid Off
  • After market parts and work done to it

2009 or 2010 GT-R
  • Only $40 more a month than Evo for insurance
  • It's a GT-R

I think that's all. I don't want to make this sound like a for sale thread, so I'll leave it at this. Just really need some opinions on what I should do.
Do it NOW. I sold my EVO X, Very disappointing car, the EVO 9 is WAY better, but the GTR is a great tool.

blewbyyouVIII on this site or the same screen name on evoatlanta had 2 Evo's. A EVO VIII he tracks that was turned into a race car by CBRD and a Evo IX MR for daily driving. I think he sold the MR after he bought his Skyline (he still has his EVO VIII racecar).

Thats the only person that has done what you are contemplating. I know he still has the GTR and has no plans of going back to an Evo.

Do they GTR transmission hold up good if you leave the car stock?
Saw a few customer with broken tranny with regular driving.
After the warranty it's something to think about as it is almost 20k to replace.

How much for your evo?

I'll go evo IX after my 8...

I personally would keep the EVO, modify it, and use all that extra money for another hobby or put it into the EVO.

As mentioned several times and I read over and over again...the GT-R is ridiculiously expensive for the maintainace costs...if you think its high now.

Keep the EVO and build on it..

I voted yes just for the fact that you would be in an elite group of owners who would have a super car. If it is not a dd, maintenance costs would not happen as often. BTW, as far a GT-R goes, I'd rather have a R32, R33, or R34--Godzilla! Talk about exclusivity. But basically illegal if they're not federally legal through importation.

Keep your paid off EVO do a few more mods and enjoy smoking the sh*t outta the GT-R owners...especially at the track if u plan on doing that...thats what will really keep the smile on your face...my evo with bolt-on's...E85...stock turbo and stock cams and good handling/suspension mods can take the GTR's in the corners and just about keep up with the GT-R's in the straights at the track...once i throw a 30R on it will be childs play lol...and the fact that you will have he EVO paid off is the best part!
