New Lancer

Hey! I'm thinking of buying a new 2003 Lancer and I need help getting started. I'm don't really understand much about cars, but I know the basics. I've read the Upgrade Paths on evolutionm.net, but don't know if it's the best to follow. Can anyone help me make a list of parts I need or improve on the Upgrade Path? Keep in mind, that I want to get the most out of the Lancer.

Thanks For The Help!

That upgrade path is actually really good path to take. Just go to www.roadracemotorsports.com and if you get any of the engine products there you will be happy.

Forced induction as of right now. No real good internal engine mods are available yet. Standard bolt ons wouldn't be too bad if you had them all on your car. But each alone isn't going to give you more power than a turbo.

It also depends on what you are looking to get out of the car. Since I autocross, suspension came first. But if you drag race, forget the suspension and go with engine mods. Or maybe you want an overall nice car, or a show car. Either way, there are tons of choices.

Sorry for bothering you, but I have some other questions. I'm planning to buy these:

1. RRM Intercooled Turbo Kit
2. GReddy "Evolution" Series Catback Exhaust
3. Road Race Clutch/Road Race 2200lbs. Pressure Plate
4. Road Race Lancer Forged Pistons
5. ECU System (Can't Find It)

1. Is that all I need for engine upgardes(How about wires and other small parts)?
2. When I get this turbo kit do I need to buy an Intercool for it or does it come with it?
3. What's the difference between Road Race Clutch and Road Race 2200lbs. Pressure Plate?
4.What does the ECU System do and where can I find one that is not discontinued?
5. What else do I need for me car to perform its best? (Gauges, etc.)
6. Do I need any parts from the Normally Aspired Path to make my car better or does the Turbo Kit cover most of the parts?
7. What's included in the Complete RRM Intercooled Turbo Kit?

I know thats alot of questions, but I love Lancers and can't afford an Evolution. So can anyone answer some of these questions for me.

Thank You!

1. All the engine mods are good. (Intake manifold, headers, throttle body)
2. The intercooled kit as you mentioned you want to get comes with an intercooler. Non intercooled means no intercooler.
3. Not sure, I drive automatic so I am not up in the transmission area.
4. They just came out with a new ECU upgrade, not on the site yet. It just plugs into your stock ECu and let it do the work. Not sure exactly what the new one does though, but expect 10-13% increae in power I think it was.
5. Anything for you car is good. Look around and read up on products and see what they do.
6. The turbo kit is just the turbo pieces, you will have to buy all the NA parts seperate. And they will help out too.
7. Everything you need to trbocharge your car. You can call RRM and see what the exact kit includes.

Also look around and search these forums. Most of your answeres were already here.

with all of that you should EASILY be in the 13's i believe, right guys? unless u are a bad driver...

on Ebay u can get a short shifter for like $30-50, some people on this forum have it and they all say it works great.

good luck with the car!

The ECU upgrade has been dicontinued but has recently been replaced with a piggyback unit. Unless Rob already sold it, he had the last of the previous version available for a turbo lancer with no core charge.

I wouldn't bother getting the intake if you are going to get a turbo. You won't be able to use it with the turbo.

Does everything else look fine? And what's the next step in the modification process?
