New owner, few questions.
New owner, few questions.
Whats up guys, I just recently bought a brand new WW Evo X GSR. Basically because I believe I deserved it haha. Anyway i just have a few simple questions. Yes, I've been lurking the forum and have searched for a lot of things. But I still haven't completely understood in full detail that much. I apologize in advance if this is a burden to you, I'm sure this is asked 100 times daily. I'm sorry, I'm just not that savvy.
Questions:
I again apologize if you think I "didn't search" I did, I'm just having difficulty understanding.
Thank you.
Questions:
- How can I easily gain some quick HP?
- When looking for an exhaust what should I be looking for?
- ECU Flash, when do I do that and why exactlly.
- Cold air intake, necessity?
- Boost gauge? Why?
I again apologize if you think I "didn't search" I did, I'm just having difficulty understanding.
Thank you.
First of all common sense should have answered all of these for you. You had the common sense to purchase an EVO.. anyways
Exhaust look for Full turbo back exhaust.
You should have your evo tuned even in stock form but defnitely after installing exhaust
Stock intake is good up to a certain amount of power which you are far from.
Boost gauge? Um lets think here. To monitor your boost!?!? To see how much you boost and know when something isn't right, i.e boost leak. Once you start modding you need a boost gauge.
quick hp = tune exhaust and a manual boost controller. Purchase the controller the exhaust and install then take it to a dyno or have get reflashed from mellon racing on here.

Lol, same reason I bought my IX.
Questions
1. Get a tune done (by a reputable tuner). Maybe a boost controller, most people on here have them and recommend them but I haven't got one and my boost has been adjusted with the tune just fine. It may depend on your tuner.
2. Full turbo back exhaust (brand and size depend on your preferences to noise)
3. If you're asking this question then I would recommend you do not touch ECU Flash for a while. ECU Flash is tuning software and you need to be quite knowledgeable to tune, for example I haven't touched it and I do not plan to (not brave/smart enough). EVOScan is logging software which I recommend you do use in the near future. You should be getting a tune done as you modify your vehicle so your ECU manages the engine with the modifications accordingly.
4. Nah, not really. Unless you're going for big power.
5. To see how much boost you're using.
Edit: With a brand new car, check your warranty conditions, you could void your warranty pretty quick. If you don't care then go for your life on the mods.

Well..theres i guess you can say a few ways to "gain some quick hp" which would be adding some bolt ons, or getting a tune which should is always a great thing for the car. A UICP is def. a nice mod for the X since the stock one expands underboost. A exhaust should be 3 inch and try to find one with minimal bends, what material used, for the most part. A exhaust always a great bolt on to increase exhaust flow, sound of the car. Other than that its a preference( dual, single exit, titanium, stainless steel, etc.)
You should consider a tune after you have done all your bolt ons you wanted to add. This would also help to ask yourself what exactly are your goals for the car? Then answering yourself that question will determine what exactly you would need for your car to reach that goal. Its a way you save your money, instead of (ill do just a turboback exhaust, get tuned, then you decided you wanted to add a intercooler kit and intake and then have to get retuned again for how ever much the tune is) know what i mean?
Are you asking if a cold air intake is a must? because theres 2 kinds of intake for the X. A short ram and a cold air intake. I just want to make sure i am understanding your question right. Because if you are asking if a cold air intake is worth it over a short ram intake. I would say read this who was also asking for help https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...ml#post9409775
Jookies and Kracka made good points to that.
(i got an agp cold air intake because i have read good things about it and i got it together with other mods ill mention later)
A boost gauge is needed because its a great mod to monitor your car. A boost gauge could tell you that you could have a boost leak or if you are overboosting which could lead to problems to the motor, things of that sort.
To give you an ideal mod list, I finally picked up parts last night which was a greddy ti-c turboback exhaust( single exit.) a AGP UICP and a AGP cold air intake, and he even gave me a autometer boost gauge and dynojet a/f ratio for 600. Now im looking for a boost controller, and a fmic for a good deal. (I highly encourage you do also do an intercooler." Not only will it add some power, but it will help your car run more efficiently and best of all more safely- Kracka" I just want to throw a shout out to Kracka for all the help and advice he has given me. Really cool person and i appreciate all the information he gives and helps me out with.
Oh then after gather those mods, installing them, I want to get a conservative tune hoping to shoot for atleast 320/320 on 91 octane. I baby my car ridiculously, taking good care of it,etc. Probably after adding the mods and tune is when ill actually drive the thing hehe. Even then though it still maybe once in a blue moon like i do now, my g/f drives my car harder than i do when shes behind the wheel, shes such a bamf, i love her....ok but anyways haha...
Sorry if it information is all bleh, im actually about to go pass out and go to bed haha, i hope though i was some help to ya!
Good info everyone, I really appreciatte it.
When people say you need to get a tune after adding an exhaust does that mean after i put the exhaust on, I cant drive my car until its tuned? I'm assumining I can as long as I dont beat on it.
