How bad is the 6speed?

Well I am going to get an 06 mr and am having second thoughts because of what I hear about the 6 speed being so fragile. Is it really that bad? Its going to be my dd with occasional spirited driving. Not going to track it at all. Should I be ok?

Just finished 2 hours driving with my 6 speed and no complaints. If you don't beat on them there's nothing wrong with them.

Doesn't seem like much of a problem.

Owned mine since April of 06, and never had a problem. Love this damn car.

I've had mine since January of 06 and love having mine too

There is nothing wrong with a 6 speed other than people really beating/abusing their cars.

It's not "bad" at all. The fourth gear sometimes has issues, but it's usually in applications where the car is raced a lot at high-speed courses combined with noticeably higher hp and torque (say, the firepower needed to do low-12s or better in the quarter). Tons of MR owners will have nothing but positive things to say about it. However, there's a higher likelihood of the six-speed going out than the five-speed, considering durability... that being said, there isn't too much to worry about with the six-speed in most cases.

if you ask a shop they'll say 6 speeds are good for daily driving, and 5 speeds are for modding. but i have a evo 8 which is a 5 speed and on long hauls i wish i had a extra gear

Like other people said 5 speed is more for power. Don't expect to hit over 400hp with your 6speed

6 speeds are nice for daily driving and can be great after you throw some money into it, but stock wise the 5 speeds will take you to high hp/trq with out modifications rather then the 6 speed tranny

The CT9A MRs actually have lower mpg ratings than their 5-speed counterparts.
