so heres the deal i am currently deployed and saving up for an evo x, my nephew has a scion tc fully built pushing about 500 at the crank its pretty fast even though it takes time to catch grip, the callenge is a little friendly race between siblings... i dont wanna do any major mods that would jeopardize the reliability of the evo but i am looking to pull out about 125 ponies out of this motor, from what i have read online the 4b11 is very capable of achieving so much with so little... im also trying to limit the spending on mods for about 2.5k-3k any suggestions?? expected gains??
just put the competition on a track with a curve or turn as the tc is probably worthless in anything but a straight away.
i own a 09 gts and a 07 tc (fiances) and the tc handles like crap compared to the gts, i dont even want to think what its like compared to the evo.
but to answer your original question
the post above mine has good options, im sure others will have some similar options that dont involve e85.

what about the mbc? i heard that just intalling it while maintaining stock boost is almost an additional 50 hp... im not sure if its too safe though
haha nice to know the tc handles like crap in turns... were supposed to do 1/4 mile track, 3 laps autox, and 1 street... he said for sure he can take me in the auto x which i find extremely difficult to believe, i am however worried about the 500 ponies... those mods all looking forward too except the e85 tune...
Just do the auto-x runs first, that way after he shreds the tires trying to come out of turns, you'll win by default
BTW, installing a boost controller while making zero other changes will not increase power.

He'll have the least amount of traction on the street, so save the strip for last. Let him burn up tires in auto-x and on the street. Unless he knows how to launch it really well, he's going to be spinning like crazy. Or are you going to go from a roll?Originally Posted by Jim3142

btw- When I say the street, I mean a closed roadway with police and medical personnel on site

Just make sure you talked to some experienced auto cross guys and get some autocross experience. I have run a stock neon in autocross (with R compound tires) and kept up with corvettes on a short tight course. Not that I am any good, but they had no idea what to do and couldn't figure out to stay off their gas pedal, and constantly pushed out of turns and went off course.
If you already have some autocross experience, well, you are just going to make him cry.

Just run him as is. You probably won't need much to take him. Most FWD turbo cars are a lot more hype and scare than they are fast. Most of them also don't go to the track to see how fast their cars actually are.

well i know just installing a mbc doesnt sound to solid on making power but after reading this it does make sense

There is a lot of good information in these forums if you use the search function. You also got a very good answer in post 2. As for the street part of your race, you are flirting very close to the no-street-racing portion of our rules, so let's leave that out of the thread.
sorry should have made it clearer... i live in the middle of nowhere, texas... its a private street on my uncles ranch... my bad

Its still recommended that you get a tune when the boost is increased though, especially on the stock tune since according to the article, on the stock tune the X tapers off to around 14-15 psi while the AMS boost controller is holding 21 psi to redline. Hopefully someone else more experienced in tuning can provide some more insight
