IX is a raw car that many wont like, thats what I like about the IX/VIII though; theres no traction control and stability control and all the excess computer nonsense. Jeremy Clarkson once said about the Ferrari F40 in comparison to modern Supercars, "But this is so much more fun, because it's just road...seat...***: the end!"
If you're looking for comfort and technology, the IX won't do that as well as the X. If youre looking for a no holds barred machine, then the IX is what you want.

10. Why buy an obsolete car?
Everyone here that owns an VIII or IX will tell you to buy one of those.
I owned an VIII, I've also own an X. Guess what one I like more?
For one, my car puts down more power and gobs of torque than my VIII ever did.
330hp/320 tq for my VIII on a mustang dyno and the X is around 360/360
My VIII had: AEM EMS ($$$), Kelford 272 cams ($$$), TBE, evo IX turbo, Intercooler, intake, and other supporting mods.
My X has a TBE and a tune.
I also just raced a friend of mine who was making 330hp (VIII with a gt30 and low boost) on the same dyno and I pulled a car length on him from a roll. Not bad for a car with a fraction of the modifications.

^we all know how that goes. especially coming from someone never owning an evo. power is easily obtainable in both cars, almost by just thinking of having more power.
i would say a V/// or /X only because thats what i own and i love it. i havent ever driven a X, but plan to do so in the future. who knows maybe if i like it enough i might trade in and upgrade.

one thing of interest, one reason people really started backing the X (or saying it was a better track car than the 9 anyway) was in 08 when Gates was smoking everyone in NASA TT..
this year boomn929 dominated the same class and broke pretty much all those lap records from 08 in an evo9.

And yes, that was an awesome episode. It was the one where they were comparing the Enzo, CGT, and Zonda to XJ220, Mclaren F1, and F40.
