Insurance Confusion...

I called our insurance agent to get a quote on an '06 Evo SE and it does not make any sense to me. I'm under my parents policy and there are 4 vehicles on the policy as well as the house, so they get all the nice discounts. If I remove my truck from the policy, full coverage is $106 a month on the Evo. Now if I keep my truck, the insurance for just the Evo is $143... How does this make sense? I thought the more cars the cheaper it is. I initially thought she was adding my truck and the car together but I asked her and she said no, my truck would still be the $50 a month I currently pay, plus $143. Anyone have any info?

From what I see looking up for insurance quotes, the cost of an Evo goes up because of
1) Your age-The younger you are the more expensive it is
2) Its a race car-which they think you will most like be making your own 2 fast 2 furious movies
3) If you don't have a good driving record-They definitely will think your a high risk driver

That still doesn't explain why it goes up if I keep my truck?

A question best answered by your insurance agent I would imagine.

it goes up if you keep your truck because you are now insured on 2 different cars, more liability on them! I'm assuming you are the main driver on both cars so thats why it would go up, if you had a different person on each car is would be a different matter, its kinda hard to explain but its a liability thing since you will be driving 2 cars instead of one!

This!

I thought for some time some insurance companies were doing the full coverage for only one vehicle at a time... as in, you technically have 2 vehicles insured but since you can only drive one at a time thats the price you pay? Maybe I'm talking out of my ***

but I pay $154 a month for my evo with a clean driving record

My guess is that because you have two vehicles on your name makes you twice as likely to wreck one making you a higher risk.. If you want an even better discount have one of your parents be insured on the evo then get your name under one of there cars preferably which ever one is safer and less risk like a SUV or something along those lines. Thats what im about to do, if im insured on the evo its going to run me about 285/mt because im 19, but ill have my parent go under mine which is going to make my rate in the 108-125 range depending on which model evo i end up getting.

You should be paying less for each individual car with multiple cars. If not, ask your agent, if you don't like it shop around.

You guys are all young. I'm in my 30's and pay $360 for my '11 evo x.

yeah paying more if you insure your truck too doesnt make any sense even with people's explanations about how since youre now insuring two cars youre "twice as likely to wreck one". your risk of crashing wouldn't go up cause its not like having two cars makes you drive twice as much. if anything your risk of crashing any one of the two cars would go down because youre now sharing the mileage you drive in a given time period between two cars. so i would definitely ask the agent whats up with that? it could also be that you misunderstood her or that she just explained the pricing to you wrong.

Would the insurance company assume the truck is your daily driver? and you only spend a limited time in your evo? I know I got questions about average miles driven a year when I signed up for insurance...

By removing the truck from your policy, the insurance company may think you're putting more miles on the evo, in effect putting yourself at more risk to wreck it

I have no idea, just throwing it out there. Ask your insurance rep

Damn you guys pay a lot.... I'm 18 , full coverage all state, and I'm paying 170 / month . But yeah, that's weird. Insurance companies have the strangest policies.
