New Evo VIII Owner- Questions
New Evo VIII Owner- Questions
Hello EvoM! I am the new owner of a 2004 Evolution VIII with a whopping 21k Miles. I just purchased the car a few days ago with a few bolt ons (3" CBE, intake, high flow cat, and LICP). My previous vehicle was an RX8, and this will be my first run with turbocharged cars. Im currently living in Arizona, but will soon be driving the car back home to Ohio. As with anyone that purchases an Evo, i do have some horsepower goals in mind. This will be a daily driven car, so i'm hoping to shoot for anything between 320-350whp. Regardless, from what ive been reading here on EvoM, is that (for street cars at least) improving torque is usually more important for boosting the "fun factor", and peak horsepower should follow along with it to an extent.
My question is, with these horsepower goals in mind, should i ever need to upgrade the cams? Since it is a daily driver, I've read that the HKS 272's would be a good choice, but would i really need them with such conservative whp goals?
Also, seeing as i will be living in Ohio, will a manual boost controller suffice, or should i look into an electronic boost controller? The reason i ask, is that the varying degree in temperature and humidity throughout the seasons. Summers are upper 80's and into the 90's, not to mention humidity, and temperatures reach below 10 degrees in the winter. Ive read that the MBC's can be finicky with weather changes.
Obviously these goals have to be achieved safely, and i will be looking into a fuel pump and possibly larger injectors before i move into upping the horsepower. Also this car has never been tuned, so i imagine at some point ill take the car up to Buschur and get it professionally tuned, or find a local shop to help me out.
Is there anything that i am overlooking or missing for a quick, but reliable DD?
Thanks for taking the time to read, and i look forward to using the forum here!
