Hi guys!
Hi guys!
Hi all. Newbie here. Just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions. I just sold my baby (see sig) and I'm getting ready for a new project. I've decided to start with an Evo. Right now the plans are mild (yea, we all know how that goes). I'm thinking of starting with an RS (this will not be my daily driver) and adding a Vishnu Stage 1 right from the start.
How difficult are cam gears? I know my way around the top end of an LS1, but know nothing about these motors......
Is Vishnu a good starting point? I like the idea of xede. Looks similar to LS1 Edit, which was great.
Thanks for the newbie help. I hope to soon become an active member with valuable input.
BTW, here's a cool shot of my recent car that you may enjoy:

The XEDE offers the same tunability of the LS1 Edit but if I remember correctly, the LS1 Edit actually reflashes the ECU. The XEDE is a piggyback that intercepts the MAF's signal. It does, however, give you some awesome tuning features that is only rivaled by the Greddy E-Manage or soon-to-be-released UTEC. If you want to get really serious, look into a stand-alone like the AEM.
If you've done a cam swap in an LT1 or LS1, you'll find cam gears or cams for that matter a breeze with Evolutions.
Good luck!
Nice SS, btw. I used to have a '95 Z28 that ran 12.7s.
Why did you switch cars?

I had an offer that pretty much fell in my lap. A guy from Eastern F-body wanted a strong car to do a nitrous project with. He'll be coming out this spring with about a 300 shot on my car. He's had to make some obvious changes to it for nitrous (gears, stall converter, new cage). He should be deep in the 9's. I accomplished my goals of 10's, and quite frankly, the car was not very streetable in the state I had it in. Pretty much, just ready for a change. I think I'll be happy with a 12 sec steetable Evo.
Yes, LS1 Edit flashed the ECU. I thought exede did the same. That why I'm here, to learn

From what I understand, the software for the Evo ECU is somewhere in the range of 6000 dollars and has a very steep learning curve. I remember watching a few guys play with LT1 Edit down at Cecil and that thing was relatively user-friendly.
I'll probably go with a base flash from Dynoflash once I get cams and a new fuel system in (I can get the benefits of the timing tweaks Al does) and use the SAFC-II to do any furthur fine tuning.
Maybe I'll see you at Cecil or MIR once it gets warmer...
Vishnu is offering flashes and is seeing really good gains.

I have the xede and xflash along with their signature series dump back exhaust (Stage 0+). On their Dyno Dynamics all wheel drive dyno I had a baseline of 195-200whp. I now have 260whp on California 91 octane. I plan on doing cam gears and cams next. Hopefully that will put me at or close to the 300 mark.
Have fun with your new EVO!

Evotook, nice gains. Are you saying that Vishnu Stage 0+ gave you 60 whp? That's quite impressive without going into the motor.....I didn't know you could gain that much without cam gears or cams....
MrBonus, Cecil is one of my favorites, and I've been there many times. A little far for us southern MD guys, but usually worth the trip. The guy that did my heads/cam package is there a lot. He has a 9 sec red Trans Am, all motor (stroked). His name is Mike, and he had a business in PA called Rapidmotorsports. My car is on his website (www.rapidmotorsports.com).
Check out this vid of his car. Talk about crapping the shorts! He let off the throttle after coming down and still ran a 12.xx !!
