Looking to Buy an EVO

Ive always like EVO's, but have never had the chance to purchase one. Im hoping to pick one up in the next few weeks or so. So, I have a few questions.

1. Is there a particular year(s) I should stay away from?

2. What would a stock one run in a 1/4 (roughly)

3. How difficult is it get them into the 11's?

These are kinda broad questions, but Im asking because I've had an srt-4 in the past. It was going to take roughly 6k to get it to be a mid/high 11 second car. Im assuming EVO's are faster (stock to stock) than an srt-4. So, whats a good dollar amount to shoot for when it comes to modding the car to run 11s. No interested in anything that won't make it faster. Just the value/difficulty to get the car from stock, to 11s.

Depends on the cost you're willing to spend. I would try to stay away from one that has been modded up already. Good Luck on your purchase

Stock Evos should run in the high 12s/low 13s depending on driver skill. You will likely spend between $4000 - $6000 to get the Evo into 11s consistently.

uhhh WHAT???

I went 11's on, Intake, Exhaust, FMIC, Cams, tune, on only 23psi.

Also who the hell said 6k to get an srt-4 into the 11's. I have 2 buddies running 11.80's with about 1k into there cars. Nitrous works wonders on srt's.

All Evo's are Great.. an 03 would probably be the cheapest but least powerful (STOCK).. but honestly it will be hard to find a stock one. And 11's is not that hard to accomplish.. Good Tune and basic Bolt Ons.. should do the job. I would say to stay away from the MRs 6 speed.. you know.. I have heard alot of sad stories about them. Good Luck on your find..

Any evo is good. Just all depends on the price you want to pay. The IX would be the best bet but costs more!

03-05 are usually cheaper, 06 have a slightly diffrent head which parts are more expensive but they are basically the same. Stick with a 5 speed not a 6 speed.

To get an evo in to 11's? Not hard at all... A few Bolt on parts and a tune and some good driving skills and your there!

well said. the reason for 5 over 6 speed is , i believe, is a weaker tranny.

If you notice, you'll see the Mitsu newbs suggesting the 9. To tell you the truth, both have their pros and cons. You really can't go wrong with either.
MR 6sp transmission may not be the best for drag racing or serious road racing, but for the street, I think it's perfect. If you go stomping on any stock transmission with 400hp launches, they all will eventually fail.

One thing I will say... If you plan on beating the car to death with minimal maintenance, keep on walking. Because it won't be the car for you.
If you plan on some spirited driving from time to time and modest power upgrades w/ regimented preventive maintenance, it's the perfect car.
