1st import. new to this kind of modin

Hello EvoM,

Just had a couple of questions. I bought 05 evo m.r totaly stock.

I'm plannin on buyin
Intake
Ic tubes
Exaust.
Gauges

One thing at a time at what point should I get it tuned??

How much will the motor take before it blows. Its my dd and it want it to last. How much boost can I get out of the stock turbo?

Thanks ,

As soon as you put the intake on you will need a tune bc of the MAF. If I were you I would put all your bolt ons and then take it to get tuned right away. The tune alone will net you some serious hp gains over stock.

Stock block will hold quite a bt more than your bolt on mods.....my advice is too decide what kind of build you ate wanting to do.....do some searching on that kind if setup, come up with a parts list of what you need, then go from there.....

Welcome happy modding!!!

Welcome to the world of Evo ownership! What cars have you previously owned? Since you're into modding, I'm going to assume you've owned some modded American cars?

If you want the car to drive similarly to stock, keep the power at or below the 400whp/400tq area. Even at that level, you're giving up a little bit of drivability but it's still very possible to DD a 400hp Evo.

I also suggest doing all the bolt ons at once, and getting a tune immediately after. You can get 325-350whp on the stock turbo. As far as boost, you can push 30ish psi, but the turbo isn't very efficient at that much boost. On the stock turbo, I'd stay around 20-25psi but you're going to need all the supporting mods to go with it.

Figure out what exactly you want out of the car, and go from there.

What kind of 1/4 times will I see with 350 hp

Depends on how well you can launch an all wheel drive turbo charged car, I'm sure you've realized by now, it's nothing like launching anything RWD. With that goal, 350, I think you should see 11's - 12's.

Sounds like a nice stable! I've always liked the 70s GM trucks, but my dads got a '66 Chevy truck to match his 66 Impala convertible

As for 1/4 mile times, once you get some practice with launching the car you should see high 11s with 350whp.

Welcome!

Have you checked out NorCalEvo.net?

http://www.norcalevo.net/content/?

I'm sure you will find local evo news, clubs and events on that site.

Have fun modding and do your research first!! I know the impulsive urge to go out and buy something 'FAST' for your car but do yourself a favor and take a step back and research what it is you want out of your car and the best way to get there (within your budget if you have one). This site will provide you with loads of information and you need to decide which route is best for you.

Good Luck!!

NorCalEvo or whatever would be a good place to meet some locals. Also, check out the regional sections of this site. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/west-region-44/

I understand your fear, took me a while to break my old habits too, I'm used to being around 60's models camero and mustangs. Learning a new launch style is pretty cray when you're used to one way. Once you get used to it though, you'll find nothing comes close to a good AWD launch, very exciting.

My 2 step is setup for 6K RPM, but every car is different, for me, all I do is slip the clutch till I feel it lock and then I drop it. On the other hand, I have a friend who has to slip it a bit more then me, just got to feel it out. One thing though, that might catch you off guard, torque steer, keep ahold of that wheel. lol

:Edit: Forgot to add, there are a ton of people from the bay area here, I always see them posting, go check out the Evo general forums, you'll find em.

The basic mod path for your car is: TBE, MBC, IX DV, fuel pump, and a tune. Do yourself a favor a and choose your tuner wisely. Good luck.
