what is holding me back....

There is a nice ww '12 with the options I like-ss, nav, int sport. I think evos and rally cars in general look great-even the wing yup.

so what holds me back...

1) can't test drive an evo...I really just want to see how loud on the freeway since it will be a dd for 20 or so fw miles there and back. well you can test drive it but then "you have to buy it." um ok. I get that ppl want then with no miles or test drives but I guess they aren't confident the car will sell itself? Plus they are just sitting around it seems. They have the same 11s there for the last 4 months.

2) 3k markup. Really? I know it's a new model yr but the model is pretty long in the tooth. With that said, if ppl are willing to pay msrp or even a markup can't fault the dealer for that-I'd do the same thing. But is that common w 12s?

3) lack of trunk-that's the only thing about the car itself-I think the interior is nice enough for a 40 yo I don't care about rattles so much-I've driven Audis for a long time.

Pluses: it's fast and looks great. I can take my kids in it and make them giggle like crazy and/or scare the crap out of them. That is nice.

1) Find a used one, who wants to take the big hit to drive a new car off the dealer floor anyway.
2) See above.
3) Who cares?

1) Call up one of the Mitsu Superstores (South Coast, Long Beach, etc). They probably have a few different used X's.. I'd imagine they'd let you test drive one of those, instead of a new one.

2) See #1 - they're usually a few thousand below MSRP. Probably a drive from Northern CA, but well worth it if you're seriously considering the X.

3) Dunno.. in 2 years, I've yet to use my trunk for anything. Though it seems just about as large as several other cars I've owned. Maybe get a roof rack, if you need more space?

Don't buy from dealers like that. Go buy from elsewhere and drive back to the dealer to show them your new Evo because they wouldn't let you test drive theirs

1- is the reason why I bought a new STI over the EVO back in 05. First and maybe last new car I'll by, and I did drive it back to the Mistu dealer. Like WTF, it's not a Carrera GT

Thanks for the suggestions-I think there is another dealer not too far away that will allow a test drive so I will have to check that out.

Yeah the trunk is not a deal breaker.

Have any of you seen the piano black trim? It's actually pretty nice.

Finally got to test drive an evo

I had to put a car seat in the back and take 2 kids along for the ride but I wasn't going to pass up the chance.

After reading so much it really wasn't a surprise-fast, loud, cornered like nothing I've driven and not too bad on the freeway in 5th at around 65. I didn't try a u turn but can see it being a bit wide. I'm 5' 11 and still felt a little low in the car but would get used to that pretty quick I could tell.

So this dealer has nothing but 11's but is sure willing to deal.

The most appealling one was in the showroom. ww gsr w 25 miles on it. Ss, fast key, aero kit package and side window defelectors. Great looking car. It also had a lip on the rear spoiler...I thought that was kind of funny. A spoiler on the giant spoiler.

Decisions.

I'm not sure how much I should be concerned about a x that has been sitting for prob many months.

The sitting around isn't as big of an issue as what happened during the 25 miles. You know how test drives aren't usually allowed? There's a reason for that. As long as you're buying new, why not opt for a car with fewer miles? FWIW, both of my Evos had less than 6 miles on their clocks when I took delivery. Good luck.

I have reservations about an Evo as well...

I feel like the Evo X is sort of a set back from the 2006 evo, and while the 2006 evo was more of a pure race car, the X is more of an srt-4 type car.. bleh

And of course, issues with quality and such, and also that I feel too old to be driving this.

Otherwise, I realllly want to like/buy the X, I just wish they would finish off the model series with a more 'true' evo, like the 2006.

Don't be fooled. The Evo X is every bit as serious of a race car as the Evo 8 and 9. In fact, the X has more power and stiffer chassis and drives more planted. I've autocrossed both and really like the way the X feels solid. I also think the trim and style is more "refined" in the X. The only downside is that it is a heavier car than the 8 and 9.

So, a better car overall? I have wanted an Evo since 2003 and now that 2012 appears to be the end of the line, I am thinking I should just buy one already.

well I can always go back to the dealer that doesn't allow test drives now that I got that done. Yeah I feel like as far as getting a new one the window will likely close this year. I am glad Mitsubishi is doing well so at least the warrantee should be there-unless they bet everything on their 31k electric golf cart-in that case, sayonara. And if by 2020 cars really do start driving themselves the time to get your raucous beast is now.
