Newb in Japan

Hello all. I live in Japan about 100 miles south of Tokyo. I just picked up an Evo VII. I am new to the Evo world but not to 4G63's. Before I moved to Japan I had a few DSM's that I built but those cannot be found over here and the closest thing was an Evo so that helped me make a decision. My Evo is pretty much stock (the only clean, stock, unmolested Evo I could find around here). The only thing done to it is Volk 17's, Greddy Turbotimer, and some Japanese brand of super stiff Strut/spring combo. I havent really set my goals/plans for the car but I would ultimately like to have a super clean, super reliable daily driver that will destroy all of these over-rated skylines lurking around every street corner here in Japan. I look forward to learning on this forum. I used to be a pretty frequent visitor of the DSM forums (DSMTuners, DSMTalk, DSMSource, ect...) but thats in the past.

ok cool I will! I'll be honest...I've only taken 1 picture of my car since I got it a week ago lol. But i'll snap some more and throw them up here. Also...I was wondering if anyone knew of any shops or vendors in Japan around the Tokyo area or anywhere in Kanagawa Prefecture that sells Evo parts? Thanks.

Did you just get to japan? If so, welcome. Nice pickup on the VII, they aren't cheap around here. As far as car parts go, you looking used or new? For new autobacs is always the best, there are many around, they can order you any new part you want. For used, local, in person up garage is awesome. There are also many up garages around, I am not sure where they are near atsugi but I am sure there are some. With up garage you can go to the store and its hit or miss weather they have used evo parts but you can search their entire inventory and they will ship to your local store for a very nominal fee, usually less than 1k yen. Just type in up garage jp in google and in the search box type ct9a, you can see all the parts for your body code, keep in mind that it also includes the 8 and 9 so like the mivec stuff won't fit of course. You will need to translate the webpage with google as it is in kanji. The best and cheapest place that I have started to love is yahoo auctions. They are auctions for only japan. I have bought such great deals from there. I bought a VI engine for 1400USD(shipping was 100USD and only took 3 days for 300 miles, beat that in the states!). Recently I just bought a full 6.5TME clutch with flywheel in very nice condition for 4000Yen. For yahoo auctions, you need a japanese bank account to use. You might want to get a girlfriend fast to buy your parts for you. There are companies in Japan that all they do is export parts but they will buy the parts for you and have them shipped to you domestically. Did I mention shipping is outrageously cheap in Japan? These companies will charge you 10% commission but its worth it. The two that I have used in the past(I use my girlfriend now) are hayatonka and ep importers. One is austrialian and the other is retired navy so they speak english.

I am at Yokota, we have a pretty sweet crew of AWD up here. There are probably 5-6 IV's on base, one VI, one VIII and one X. We try to meet up and go on cruises, usually go mess around in the mountains. A lot of times a Pulsar GTi- R comes with us, that thing is a monster. I am trying to plan something for this saturday, would you like to meet up then, or any other time, for that matter, I love to meet new evo owners.

Thanks for the great info! I will check out Up Garage right now! I have been here in Japan for about 2 years now (stationed in Yokosuka Naval Base) but I just recently transferred to Atsugi Naval Air Station where I will be for the next 4 years or so. I already have a Japanese GF, in fact, she helped me get my Evo since the dealership spoke no English and my Japanese is terrible lol. Maybe I can talk her into putting her bank account info in the net and helping me ****** some parts . I would definately be down to roll out with you guys this weekend (usually I am up in Naeba or Nagano on snowboarding trips on the weekend but I neglected to plan one for this weekend so I am free) plus it would give me a chance to get acquainted with the local Evo community. There are only two Evo's on base that I know of...Me and another white IV rolling around. It's nice to be original...it seems as though everyone in the area is hooked on Skylines and 240's with duct taped bumpers and wings big enough to enable their cars to fly away. So being stationed at Yokota im going to guess that your in the Air Force? Nice to meet another friendly. Im in the Navy if you havent guessed yet. Anyways, like I said, if you decide to organize something for this weekend just hit me up on this thread or on a PM and I am definately down to tag along! Again, thanks for the great parts information!

So I was looking at the pictures of Super Autobacs and I know I already said this but HOLY CRAP. This store looks so amazing...I cant wait to visit this place... I feel sorry for my bank account when I walk out of the store (probably half a day after I arrive). Thanks again for the tip.

I wonder how plentiful things like Evo III intakes and the Galant front knuckles are for the easy Brembo brake upgrades on DSMs, etc. Might be a little money to be made on the side
