Back on topic now. Like others have said already the evo is a very expensive car to buy and maintain. At your age the insurance will be high and without any credit so will the payments. Then you have to factor in the maintenance that this car regularly needs. The costs will add up quickly! If you can afford it though you will love it. Just dont drive like an idiot!
I didn't know it was rocket science to use the search function or go on autotrader.com but OK

been in the car game forever, from when I was a broke high school kid, till now which is being a broke grown up. lol with that kind of budget I would get a REALLY clean s14 if you have the cash. If you must finance I would go with a s2000, e36 m3, or 350z. Those cars will be cheaper insurance and maintenance.

If you are mechanically inclined, get it.

If not, your parents will wonder why you bought a piece of crap that always breaks down.

I have a friend , 17, got the Evo, now put $6,000 in repairs in one year. Parents told him to sell it. These weren't even upgrades!!

We are all under the impression that he/you are taking a loan out etc. But lets be real here, there is now way a 16 year old is paying for any of this on his own, so his parents will obv be paying for it. Which if he has a 15k budget for a first car, I am sure his parents can afford the maintenance on the evo, just saying. I would most deff say go for it, my only concern would be at 16 how you drive, just be very careful and dont try to be a hero because of you're friends. If you can handle the power of an evo at 16, more power to you. Good luck!

Check insurance first (unless you can get your parents to pay for it and have it registered in their name). I remember when I first looked into Evos.. they wanted $400/month+ for the minimum coverage.. nuts!

Allstate is quoting me $140/mo now with comprehensive (I'm 21 now)

+1 well said sir, learn the DSM and you will appriciate an evo later on. enjoy the 2 door AWD turbo car that is cheaper and get the 4 door when you need the extra doors. DSMs are known for their performance just like EVOs are.

Wow, insurance is cheap in the statesI can only dream of 400$ a month premiums... especially when i was 16... damn! Im 21 now and pay over 550 a month for insurance.... Canada sucks!! Definently wouldnt advise purchasing an evo unless you have money to blow. Like mentioned t is an expensive car to maintain!

Honestly, with gas, insurnace, mods, and maintance... i spend a easy 15K a year on my evo...

Ultimately for a first car, your better off buying a beater and move up, you will appreciate a nice car more. I started with a 99 mercury cougar...

im buying an 05 Evo 8 on saturday the best rate i found for full coverage was in the middle 200 dollar range thats through allstate its even more expensive if i was to go on my fathers insurance with the Evo. if i was you i would shop around insurance wise and get quotes before you get the car and make sure it is affordable to you. or like yacubkep said get an eclipse/talon thats what i have currently is a 2001 eclipse GS

Question

...so if theres no reasonable way to get an evo, what are some fun to drive alternatives? 4 doors is a must (insurance and parents) and I'd like to have awd

I'm not taking out a loan and the car would go on my parents insurance
