First Car Help!
Hey everybody,
I'm turning 16 soon and I'm looking for a car. I'm really interested in evos because of the overall performance, the awd, and the rally car looks. I don't think I want one that's completely stock, but I don't want any mods that are going to give me expensive problems. I'm really open to anything newer than 2003...as long as it's an evo. I'm really just posting this to get any advice I can. What is the lowest I can expect to spend? Mileage? Mods? What should I watch out for? I'll really appreciate anything I can learn here.

an 03 with 70-100k miles will be between 13 and 16 thousand dollars
16 + evo = 400$ monthly insurance.
no credit? + $15k loan = $400 monthly payment
honestly i would say this isnt the car for you, but this is my opinion.

Do you have a budget? I think that will give you alot more options. But imo I would look for a stock 8/9. Clean title. this is a very expensive car. I hope you are ready for the costs. But if you do go ahead with this. Search the for sale's give you an idea of prices.
Really man I don't think you should get an evo. I mean 15 will get you the car but like everyone is saying there are a lot of other costs associated with owning an evo. Fuel, tires, maintenance, insurance. It all adds up quickly. If you have parents with deep pockets, kudos to you but I think you'd be better off buying a slow cheap car first. There are joys to be had in driving a slow car fast.

Heck when i was 16 my first car was a 95 jetta. Are your parents willing to spend all this kind of money into this type of car or do u have a job and all your money is gonna go towards the evo ?
I'm not trying to be a buzz kill but if you were really looking for an Evo you should know the market value without us telling you . I figured all these questions out myself when I was your age. Stop being lazy
Back on topic now. Like others have said already the evo is a very expensive car to buy and maintain. At your age the insurance will be high and without any credit so will the payments. Then you have to factor in the maintenance that this car regularly needs. The costs will add up quickly! If you can afford it though you will love it. Just dont drive like an idiot!
If you don't mind me asking, how much do you make per month? I'm nto saying don't do it. All I'm saying is make sure you can afford one. Some things to consider.
1) $15,000 car is $300 a month with 0 interest. Seeing that you're 16 and you probably have little to no credit, they're not likely to give you a loan with out a co-signer.
Especially since you're going to be looking at a car that's close to 10 years old with over 100,000 miles on it. Banks don't like to give loans for these kinds of cars, and heres why: Banks assume people with bad credit, or no credit history will default on the loan. This will leave them with a car they need to sell back. The older the car, the harder that is. So, little tip: if you're looking to fincance a car with bad credit or not credit history, look for inexpencive new cars. You're much more likely to get a bank approval!
2) Your insurance will be like $300-400 a month.
3) Gas! My daily driver is my Evo X. I spend about $75 a week in gas. That's about $300 a month in gas.
4) Wear items: The typical wear items in an Evo (brakes, tires, rotors, clutch) cost about 200% more than a normal car. To put in a stock clutch in an Evo at a dealership is $2800. Most cars are 1/2 that. Brakes, rotos and tires? That's another $3800.
Yeah, I get than you're 16 and you live at home with your parents and don't pay rent. But bare bones you're looking at $350 a month if you have a co-signer with good credit + $300for insurance + $300 for gas. You need to ask yourself if that fits in to your budget.
Yes, I realize most 16 year olds don't sit down and make a budget. But what I'm saying is think about how much you spend on food, going out with friends, etc. Then add $1000 on top of that.
