How reliable are they?
There is no way that you're only paying 69 a month for insurance. Tell her to ring that up again. I'm 24 and I'm still paying the full price of $250 a month and that's cheap for this car. She must have rang it up as a Lancer instead of a Lancer Evo.

From a very reliable and trustworthy source, if you are only at 60k, you can get away with just doing the belts and be fine. Mitsu does not demand you do pullies and water pump at 60k.
With that said, I have the belts, pullies, and water pump (all OEM of course) sitting on my toolbox to do once i'm done with my DSM partout
I see no reason to not change those things while you're in there, but in a pinch, you'd be fine. Doesn't sound like you'll be in a pinch though.
I've not owned a WRX and I understand them to be fine cars. However, the EVO is a different animal altogether. It is calm and subdued when you want to take it easy, and is a visceral explosion when you feel like getting frisky. Without a doubt, buy an EVO - preferably a stock, well-maintained one. Good luck and congrats on doing so well in school!

And thank you sir!
If you look at the picture of the rear seats, you can see the front seats are different than the picture of the actual front seats. They are indeed different as OEM Evo seats don't come with those tabs on the side and the seat belt harness holes look off.
Same can be said with Euro scene, muscle car scene, etc. There's always going to be jackasses in each, running his mouth, thinking he's the king of the streets when his car can't beat the next guy. By far, the Evo community has been good to me and almost most owners respect other make and model cars. I don't plan on leaving this scene for a long time.

And i can agree with you, so far i been here about a day and have had very respectful replies unlike most forums out there! Audi and nissan forums are by far the worst!
I got some of the parts from ExtremePSI.com and some from MitsubishiParts.net. Worked a few at-the-time coupon codes and I think I have under $600 into all of the hard parts, but that also included new trans and diff/tcase fluids and some other little odds and ends (gauge pod for the dash for 52mm gauges, oil filters, etc...). You won't be disappointed. The EVO VIII/IX have been my realistic dream car since they hit US shores in 2003. I had never driven one until I picked mine up from the previous owner some 300 miles away from home (he even met me halfway, super awesome guy). So, if you can imagine the expectations you have of a car you've wanted for 10 years, then you'll understand how special it is when the car actually exceeds all of your expectations. I am no stranger to tuning and fast cars, I just parted out a DSM that, at least from my tuning experiences with it, was a 10 second machine. I don't miss it, and I have the EVO to thank for that. Did I mention it just operates as a commuter car 60 miles a day

Wow really 60 miles! Ill be doing 40 a day since UW is about 20 miles from my house and 20 back. How does it treat you with gas millage? I usually fill up every 2 weeks id love to keep it that way ahha
hmm, did not notice that at all. I knew evos came with recaros and it said recaro on them but now i can see the difference between OEM and these. I will deff ask the dealer about this but it is no big deal. Seats are seats as long as i have something to sit on while in the car ahha. Thank you for pointing that out to me!

I get anywhere from 24-26 MPG with 80/20 highway/city driving. It's no TDI, but it's better than I expected. If it gets you down, just push your right foot down a liiiiiitttle bit more. You'll forget about it.
There is a BIG difference between the stock Recaro's and any other brand, including Bride. Most aftermarket seats are not safe at all and can break causing accidents or snap if you do get in an accident, the stock seats in an evo are about as solid and safe as it gets so I'd look into that and really research the brand and model. With the amount of evo's for sale, that could definitely be a deal breaker to me.
but i have reflexes like a cat hehe This lady has another Evo ( http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/3015166998.html ) but thing is it has a little bit of mods under the hood Such as intake and BOV there is a little bit more from what she said but i didnt have time to look under the hood she wants 24 grand for this one
24-26 is exactly what i wanted to hear, ill be doing mostly highway driving and probably alot of flooring it when i first get it hehe
I agree, safety is priority with reckless *** drivers here in seattle
but i have reflexes like a cat hehe

When I bought mine, I did no research. I knew almost nothing about these cars and little did I know, mine was heavily modified in the past and put back to stock for resale. In the end I think I got lucky and only had to replace the transmission. They are great and reliable if modded correctly or kept stock. Bad mods or a bad tune=failure.

Oh, a little about me. My current car is a 02 b4 S4 that i bought at an auction and rebuilt it with my brother. He gave me the car to drive until i finish highschool. I am looking to buy a car from dealership and my preference is a Evo 2006 IX. Sorry about the confusion sir!
To all above him. Thanks for the input! I have also just read on WRX forums that the WRX breaks down easily but the engine does last up to 200k miles.
Now, my S4 is packing 150k miles all highway and never had a problem. Alot of people say S4's come with problems after 90k miles. But being me, im a clean freak and organized. I do oil changes every 2.9k miles vigorously clean the engines components and keep it running good.
Now my other question is, The evo im looking at has 52k miles for 20 grand. I wonder how long will the engine last me? I do not want to be fixing the engine every week. I will be treating it like a princess and vigorously keep the engine clean and well running, but is there something i SHOULD be worried about?
Im sorry for alot of questions hehe, this is my first car to be buying from dealer to build my credit for the near future i just really want a nice, mean looking, fun car that will go the long run with me!

there are alot of things to consider when owning an evo. Maintenance (not cheap), Insurance (high, but u've figured that out already), gas mileage (terrible by today's standards) and if you're like me, you'll be in boost a lot when you 1st get it, which results in **** poor mileage. As many have said before, the evo is reliable as long as it is kept stockish. The motor is said to be bulletproof and the tranny, weak, quite the opposite to the STI's.
You seem like a responsible guy so i'm hoping you get the EVO. keep us updated man
BTW chicks don't seem to dig the Evo

24-25mpg is definately not normal for an Evo. Stock, making a conscious effort to stay out of boost most of the time, I still got 18-19 mpg. Getting under 10mpg on a trackday is not unheard of.
