Potential new owner in NJ

Whats up I'm John im 20 and I'm from sewell NJ, like 10 minutes over the bridge from philly. Right now I drive a 92 3000gt VR4. Its super clean even with 114k, it was one owner and garage kept since day one and all proper maintenance was even done early. But I'm at a point where I've owned three 3000's. I kinda always wanted an evo and I feel like if I get a 2nd job on top of UPS where I am now, I might be able to pull this off. Maybe an older one of course like an 03-04 VIII. Its just up in the air for me which is really more practical. No matter what shape my car is in its still 20 years old and I feel like it might just crap out one day. But I wanna stay in the turbo/awd/mitsubishi game. Please tell me an evo would be a better daily? lol I mean I have done a little research on mpg/maintenance etc but I want some straight up opinions vs my car

My car gets great fuel mileage when I stay off boost, however they run on premium so it's still not that cheap.

As far as maintenance things can get somewhat pricey at different intervals. Every 60k you need to replace the timing chain and water pump, this costs about $800-1000 at most shops (parts included).

Every 30k you should be changing drivetrain fluids, somebody needs to chime in on price for this cause its been awhile for me I'm thinking around $100.

Oil changes depending on what you use will cost $40+ w/filter and these need to be done at a minimum every 5k miles.

What I'm getting at, these cars aren't exactly the cheapest when it comes to maintenance, but they certainly are worth it.

Edit:

This should give you an idea of the maintenance needed:

Its pretty much the same as my car then as far as maintenance cause I do the timing belt etc every 60k and I do oil changes every 3k, same with drivetrain too which I can do myself. As far as oil I do it myself too and I get it fairly cheap and I always use Mobil-1 synthetic with every car. But as long as the car will last me while I give it what it needs and it gives back to me, then I'd be cool with it lol

You should get an Evo. But keep up on the maintenance.

Be sure you dont mod the car past 450whp. Or youll go crazy like me

It can be a solid DD for sure as long as the maintenance is followed religiously.

sweet well in my situation I guess I'd be looking for an older VIII most likely. I only work at UPS right now part time like 4am-8am but if I snag another day job I figure I can pay it off when my parents co-sign a loan for me, and also use it as a way to start building my credit. I have a clean drivers record which helps insurance I guess even though im still a younger male lol. I feel like paying 13-14k might be going the cheap route and I kind of wanted lower miles on it, but I dont really wanna go past anything thats 20k. So hopefully I can get one somewhere in between
