The Evo is simple to make power on, I make 390+whp and 380tq on pump gas and stock turbo now. These cars are extremely capable without building the motor or changing the turbo.
You're going to need to dump a ton of money into that WRX to even come close to keeping up with a 600cc crotchrocket. Even a heavily modded Evo can have trouble with those if the rider knows how to ride the bike. You're better off setting a realistic whp goal for you car.
I beg a big ol' differ here, I out run zx6r's and R6's all day long on our curvy country roads. Not everything is about straight line, the evo is a well balanced car from easy power on tap to amazing handling, it doesn't take much. For suspension I have Bilstein HD's and Swift Spec-R's, Whiteline front sway bar with GForce tires and no bikes keep up. The 1000's obviously pull on the straights but boy you better believe I catch them in the snakes.

(CLOSED ROADS) obviously

Your comparing a WRX to a Evo? You already failed! I own a STi and they have there ups and downs like any other car, hands down a Evo is more reliable stock and will make more power because most people won't push a stock Subaru motor. If you want a track car and a 1/4 mile car go Evo, hands down a STi is a better DD. Building a Evo motor is also cheaper then Subaru, you have one less head on a4g63 motor. That being said the Evos have to dump money into the transmissions to make them as strong as a STi tranny. So long story short Evo will make more power cheaper and will outperform a Subaru cheaper. It's a better car all around if you plain on tracking or dragging the car. Either way you have to dumb alot of money into a car for it to pull on a street bike. The more power you make the more chances you will have some type of failer, if you build a car right it cost money.

touche. Obviously I was thinking along the lines of straightline pulls. Not running around curves.

I always liked the 2006 Subaru WRX STis. I think they are nice and aggressively styled. I didn't know that it was hard to make power with them though. I still would like to have one so I could cruise around in it. The next car I get for myself will be the GTR but I would easily pick up a 2006 Subaru STi for a steel.

If and when I get that 06' STi and it turns out it costs stupid pennies for power I'll just make it look nice with paint, kits, and sound. It'll be my rollin car.

OP you are only making 282HP with an HTA86 and on E85? What is your boost set at? You would think you would be making much more power than that...even on a wrx

Nevermind. Just re-read it and its on an HTA68. Dyslexia owns me tonight

Drivetrain for what? The Evo doesn't have any transmission problems, just has people who can't drive destroying them

lol dude its not all about the drivetrain. Ive seen many track evos making 400-500whp track often and not have a problem with the tranny. its all about how/ and whose driving. ALSO lets compare the blocks. subie blocks are known not to be able to handle much boost and are limited at 350wtq a like the evo 10 aluminum block. now lets look at the evo 8/9 iron 46g3 block- 600wtq has been safely accomplished with many reliabily at 500 Daily driving. that tells you how much potential our platforms have from the FACTORY.

I'll just leave this here......

RRE cat back exhaust $900, BR o2 housing $200, BR downpipe (used) $50, intake $150, electronic boost controller $100, meth injection (HFS-6) $900, tune $0 ..... made 330ish without meth. fuel type is 90 octane.

Total cost of mods $2300
Could have probably been done with less if you bought a cheaper meth kit or cat-back exhaust.

I'll add one more thing, ...... evo drivetrains get a bad rep because people abuse the **** out of them or buy them from someone who did and then wonder why they break. If you shift properly, change your fluids, don't go do doughnuts on dry pavement, (or have the 6spd) your transmission will last a very long time at 400+hp.

Also 450whp is safe on the stock internals assuming you have a good tune, and torque is what tends to break the stock motors. If your tuner keeps peak torque reasonable 450 on the stock block shouldn't cause any problems.

i make ~380whp on a dynojet on 91 octane with the stock 9 turbo, kelford 272 cams ($300), injen intake ($150), 3" catback exhaust($80), 2.75" dp($100), 3" injen ic ($250), injen uicp, muse licp ($150 new), greddy o2 ($70), milspec hfc($80), and gm 3port ($30)- @25 psi. Tune was $250 by naji @looney tuning. add these up ive spent only $1,460 buying all these parts used but in great condition and installing everything myself plus the tune. this proves that the evo 9 is an easy power on a budget car

From what I know about WRXs from a friend of mine that owns one, I recall that the WRXs and STIs r set at a much lower boost. I believe my friend is boosting at 19.5psi but I'm not sure what his numbers are.

I'm pumping 28psi and I make 358hp/374tq, and that's the basic bolt ons. I don't have tube mani...yet, nor do I have cams and springs installed. I just basically freed up the air flow from its restrictions. Oh, and I have evo x.
