What Kind Of Turbo Vs Stock?

I'm looking into getting an upgraded turbo for my EVO VIII, I've heard many say just upgrading the 8's turbo into the 9 is a great gain of power.

Any other suggestions besides the 9 turbo? I would like to have a mid to high RPM power gain due to the traffic being heavy so stop and go won't burn AS MUCH gas using this turbo..

Current Mods: Megan headers, Megan DP, Megan o2 housing, Injen LICP/UICP, 780CC injectors, 3" TBE exhaust, Stage 5 clutch, upgraded flywheel, 20 psi and possibly in the future Kelford 272s or S2 cams.

Thanks!

if your willing to spend a few bucks you can look into say the Fp Red, Map EF3, BBK Full, ( i think on that one) im kinda in the same boat as you im looking for a turbo that will help me gain a good amount of power and be fun DD but not always in boost me personally ive been looking into the Map EF3 ive heard great things about it so far and is way cheaper then the Red with smiler qualities . Well i hope this helps a little good luck with choosing.

Yea I've looked into the FP's for sure yet not sure if I'm willing to spend that amount on a turbo ya know? Budget is roughly $1500-$1800..

Where can I find more info on the Map EF3?

Yeah I've heard nothing but great things about the EF series. I'm saving up for a EF3 personally.

I was in the same situation your are in right now. I hope you choose wisely on what you want. The reason I say this its because I was sure that I was getting an FP Green, but went with the stock 9 turbo. Don't get me wrong its a nice turbo and all, but now I want different turbo. The 9 turbo is a good upgrade for the 8 if you aren't willing to spend an arm in the leg. If money is not the issue then go with the turbo the rest of the guys are saying. The 9 with e85 should be a fun upgrade while it last until you want more lol.
Im hoping to run E85 pretty soon on my VIII so will see how it does.

Sorry about my sentence structure guys...as I am reading through this I noticed there is a lot of periods. It makes it seem like a robot is trying to have a conversation

That's the turbo I now want...that or an FP turbo
BTW the stock 9 turbo does come with the 10.5 hot side. I believe a 2005 Evo comes with the 8 turbo, but has the hot side of a 9.

^ ok thank you i was unsure of the stock turbos but yea im liking what i hear about the ef series o and to the OP when looking for your turbo and power goals keep in mind on how you want that power ie FP green= close to stock spool but may lack on the top end Fp Red- a little bigger but more gains mid range to top Fp- black more lag ( if thats what you want to call it ive been in a supra with 42r and that was lag lol ) but Great gains up top me i DD but want to keep my tq curve more to the right to save my stock block from going boom so im sticking with the Ef3 ( like the Fp Red from what i hear)

No problem man I wasn't trying to be mean in any way I just thought it would be to a good idea to correct you before you went and got a 9 turbo then having to buy a hot side that your turbo already had. I think you just heard about how you are able to keep the 8 turbo and swap the 9.8 hot side to the 10.5 hot side.
