Decisions...Decisions

Hey im pretty new to the evo scene i currently drive a 99 eclipse gst modded to about 300whp been having quite a few problems (but thats expected) and ive always wanted an evo so lets cut to the chase.
im 18 i make about 1.2k a month (roughly) i may be getting a raise soon though.
my payment for the eclipse is 160 a month(near payed off)
If i pick up an evo for 15k? maybe idk if thats really possible i could get a 5 year loan and payments would be in the high 200s low 300s and if i put insurance under my moms name its about 120 a month
that would leave me with about 620 a month for whatever.

not to sure what to do id really love to drive an evo and keep my dsm at the same time at the age of 18 =p

Whats your opinion on this situation?

Do you really need both? The Evo will serve all your needs with less problems, and even small mods will put you close to 400 hp.
Since you have a low income, I'd pay off the gst and then sell it and use that money as a downpayment on the car, or save most of it to buy mods for the Evo.

The Gst is my baby tho i dont think i would be able to bring myself to sell it honestly i have about 2k left to pay on it so if i wanted i can have it payed for in 2 months or less if i get lucky with a project im working on but anyway my (kinda half ***) plan was to have the gst payed off and save money up till sometime around December maybe January and try to find a decently priced evo during winter (if thats possible)

and i really dont know if i could even get more than 5k outta the gst because its modded obviusly and the average person would be like "WTF WHY YO CAR IDLE SO WEIRD AND WHY IT SMELL LIKE SO MUCH GAS!?!?!" although it only has 102k miles on it

You can't go by doing math. Trust me when I say keep the dsm till you can get a better job to pay for the evo. Think of all the repairs the dsm needed and if you were to do that on an evo you wouldn't have any money and the car would sit. Do yourself a favor and just save up till you can actually afford the car. Been there done that when I was your age and yeah didn't work. Just wait till you can get a good or better job where your at least makeing double that and it will be much easier.

Yes, but what about changeing the fluids when the t case and tranny on most stock cars is 85 bucks a gallon, oh and don't forget t belt and water pump maintence at 60k miles you think that **** is cheap. Don't forget anything you get for the car is double what it is for the dsm.

I dont really plan to do anything big with the car when it comes to modding or anything and i dont have house payments or any of that other bs to worry about right now and obviously your 550 whp evo is gonna be more expensive lol

It has nothing to do with power my man. It has to do with these cars are expensive to work on. Pending on what year there is more maintence that goes along with them. If you don't work on the cars yourself your not gonna be able to afford it. And even when you do parts reguardless are expensive. I am just saying learn from other peoples mistakes not tring to lure you away from it. Go find out what full coverage insureance will cost you.

and also keep in mind..the cheaper the evo, the more miles and less reliable it gets = more maintenance!

Yeah I am building my house being it is fully paid for, all my cars except for my truck is paid for. I mean anyone who knows about owning a house your have all them damn nagging bills, on top of property taxes and whatever and what is left goes to food and the car. It definately ain't cheap.
