Mod bug finally hit

Alright, as the title says, the mod bug finally hit me. I have an 06 MR with 49000 miles, and it's completely stock. I bought the car 4.5 years ago, and I am the second owner. I am getting spec-r springs installed next week at speed element, and I am in the market for basic bolt ons.

My question(s) are, how are the people in cali passing their smog inspections? I was interested in getting the Greddy Ti-c TBE, and an intake. But i read that just changing the filter would be just as fine, and then a tune. I know i wont pass the smog if i get the TBE, and pls correct me if im wrong. Now with that said, if I get the Ti-c CBE, what will the difference be in HP gain vs the TBE? That's what im thinking of for starters. Oh, and i will be using this as a DD. Sorry I know it's all over the place, but im getting very excite

Dont have any experience with smog testing they perform in Cali, but I can help out with the questions about bolt ons...

If you are just getting a catback that means you will be bolting the exhaust after the Cat, you will see some gains, but having a Cat and stock downpipe will be choking it.

You should:
Replace filter for an open air filter on the stock intake tube
3inch turboback exhaust
Tune

that should get you near the high to mid 200whp/200wtq mark

Thanks LG. Was that a typo? 200whp/200wtq?

Nah thats not...

Im referring to around 270whp/280wtq range depending on boost level etc... thats why I mentioned "high to mid 200s"

OP don't let that discourage you, forget numbers and enjoy the car. A filter/air box delete, exhaust, boost controller and tune and you'll be happy for sure. Dyno numbers really mean nothing but paper bragging rights.

This is true OP...
If you are out to just enjoy the car that is all you really need.

On the other hand... 400whp/400wtq is a nice dd/street *EVO*

thanks for the words of encouragement guys. I really am enjoying the car, and i think that's why i haven't done anything to it.

But for the cali peeps who has the turbo back exhausts, how do you guys pass the smog? do you just put in the old exhaust when you guys go for smog? Thanks! can't wait to start modding
