Cool new here

Hey guys, I've been rotating and some would say moving up through car forums. I started off on vwvortex and were huge into volkswagens then moved into subarus and still love subies but I have wanted an evo since I first played with them on gran turismo when I was a kid. I'm currently deployed and own a 2003 subaru wrx which I love, and a 1989 Thunderbird Super Coupe with quite a bit of mods pushing mid 400's roughly to the wheels. I'm trying to decide the type of evo I want. I know cosmetically I like the evo 9's the best. The only evo's I'm considering are the 8's and 9's. I'm not a big fan of the new sti's wrx's or evo's. It's just my opinion but there ya have it, to each's own. Im doing as much research as I can but the deployment really limits my time. I'm just curious about minor details like the benefits and drawbacks of having the mivec in the 9's, how big of a difference is the weight with a sunroof and with the aluminum roof. What the differences are between all the models, the benefits of the 5 speed and the 6 speed. Thanks guys, hopefully everyone here is friendly!

Welcome to the forum!

The IX has a larger turbo then the VIII and will give you easier gains. However, the IX is typically more exspensive. It is becoming increasingly hard to find stock (never modded) IX and if you can find them, they are just as exspensive a modded one.

Also, please check out the below link. A simple search can return a lot of good answers. This thread has everything you want to know;
