Longevity of the 4G63 and 100k + mileage Evos ?

So while searching for an Evo I have come across a bunch that are around 100k miles and in good shape. But I am hesitant to look into them due to their miles.

My questions really are the following

1. How long does the 4G63 usually live for at near stock power levels ?
2. When are trans issues most likely to occur or is it completely dependent on how the car was taken care of?
(I have heard of the Evo death whine)
3. Has anyone bought a high mileage Evo , What were some of the problems you ran into ?

I am asking this because I would love to grab a Higher mileage Evo in the color I want I am just afraid of the reliability and long term life of the car.

4RETECH's Evo VIII has 400+ hp and 295,000+ miles. I'd imagine a properly maintained stock/stock-ish Evo should be able to do that as well.

I bought mine with 140k. No issues I've ran into. I think the struts are going bad though lol.

Wow , That is quite reassuring.

I was thinking that Struts might be the big thing I would have to replace , But I really want a WW or BBY Evo. I think those colors are beautiful.

Wow that's amazing that it lasts so long at those power levels.

My buddies evo he bought with 43k back in 07 now has 135k on it, Only thing he (well I) have had to do to it was several clutches because he cheaped out the first two times on clutches and they only lasted 10k miles each and then he got an ACT and it lasted all the way from 65k to 132k before the TOB broke, clutch itself was in great shape still though and not a sign of slipping. He is now on a CM twin disk. Other than that, hes had to replace many sets of tires and brake pads done about 4 times on the front, once on the rear. I did the timing belt, seals, water pump, auto tensioner, tensioner pulley, idler pulley at 102k miles replacing the original stuff and its all been good. Original trans, (grinds into 3rd if you try to shift too quick) original TC, driveshaft, and rear diff.

Just make sure they dont overheat as after 100k miles I hear the headgaskets will tend to go. So just keep the overheating away which goes for any car really and be good to go. First step is replacing the plastic radiator with a good aluminum as the stocks like to leak or crack when they get old.

Other than that, change the oil often and all other fluids often and you will be good. Even the manuals recommend the trans, t-case, and rear diff oil to be changed every 15k miles if driven hard, and 30k miles if driven normally.

Great cars though, its been very reliable for my buddies that have them.

I've got around 120k on my evo and its only required a few things off the bat. O2 sensor and a spring for the gas tank opener since it was missing.

Mine seems like it was beat on pretty hard so I imagine a engine rebuild but it feels so strong right now so maybe I wont need to.

You'll be alright I think, the 4G63 is one hell of an engine. I can't speak from experience Evo-wise, but the 6-bolt I just yanked out of my 1G had over 160,000 miles on the original bottom end. It was a full weight pump gas 11 second grocery getter. I beat the absolute hell out of this thing daily and never let me down.

I love the 4G63. However maintainence is key, as long as it has been maintained well I don't see why 100k would be a problem at all on stock power levels.
