Lifter Tick LOUD
Lifter Tick LOUD
I recently did an oil change and started using VR1 10w-30 Synthethic. Ever since the lifter tick has gotten alot louder.
Some friends told me to change my oil, to Rotella 15w-40. They did the change and lifter tick completely went away.
My question is, is the oil really the cause of loud tick?
Ive also been reading that i can change the lifters.
I found "Topline Revised Lifters" and "GSC Power-Division ZERO-TICK".
Opinion on these?
Thanks.

are you positive it's your lifters and not your injectors? If you have an automotive stethoscope, put them on the injectors and all around the valve cover. You can quickly diagnose your problem with them, even the cheap ones from harbor freight work perfect. You can hear fluids running through lines and all sorts of stuff
Havent checked into the injectors. I was told the lifters thats why i went with that.
Im going to buy a stethescope and see if that helps.
Could a bad coil also cause this loud tick?

I had the same problem at one point, and was in need of some advice. I did some search, and I was close to buying lifters. But, I decided to do my oil change and switch different type of filter. I was using K&N oil filter, and went to a Mobil 1 oil filter. Since then Ive had no lifter tick. I came across some post where they talked about how oil filters cause that...how? IDK but it seemed to work for me. If you are still having same problem try changing the oil filter.

to the original post...yes the oil can deff help out in reducing that noise. if you have weak lifters that are going out, a thicker oil will better be able to support those lifters since that thicker oil is less viscous and wont thin out as easy thus giving you more oil pressure... more oil pressure the stiffer/supportive your lifters are going to be..
I'm just curious, would you guys think that this "oil filter/ticker" issue would be the same for other cars, for instance... my 02 Stratus R/T? It's a common problem that we all have on the forums and it's noticeably different when the oil changes but never fully goes away, is especially louder in winter, but during summer it'll disappear mostly.
Sorry to thread jack this
but it seemed pretty related.

yes, this can be used on any car with hydraulic lifters. but if your tick does not completely go away, your lifters could be so bad that they are unable to hold enough pressure even with the thicker oil. and they could be bleeding off when you turn the car off and will be really bad on cold start. you also dont want to keep adding a thicker oil to completely get rid of the noise. you can add to thick of an oil.
