New to Mitsubishi - worth it?

How's it going guys, I'm from LI NY and lost my Audi in the Hurricane - had some small modifications to it - tune, tbe, hpfp, intake and looking for a new car - friend of a friend is selling an 05 Evo MR for around $15 k, 75k miles - stock car - but transmission has been replaced - everywhere I look it seems to be a decent price but don't really know what to look for and the fact the transmission been replaced has me a lil scared - car probably been driven like its stolen - insurance is paying me out for my car so not really concerned about small ticket items - what big ticket items to look for? Heard the transfer case often goes and makes a whining noise if its on the way out - any other advice?

Just want to make sure I'm not getting taken - still have to run a car fax but just putting feelers out right now.

Thanks for any input and I apologize for the redundant thread but always feel starting a thread gets responses I need vs someone else.

Thanks again.

hopefully replaced with a 5 speed? if so that's a bonus since you won't have to do it yourself.

As far as mechanical issues - these cars have any notorious long term issues?

I only "know" what I've read here. You'll want to drive that 6 speed very carefully if you ever mod the car. IX are generally preferable to VIII if you want to do very few mods for a very nice gain since they have MIVEC. They also have ACD, although many people get rid of ACD and upgrade the rear diff which is stupidly detuned but others are reporting great results with ACD reflash also.

I'm going to keep my ACD and get a TRE or Shep rear diff. Then if I think there's still more to get I'll think about a reflash.

TONS to read here.

6psds are fine until you start making 400+whp. Then you'll start to run into issues. If you plan on leaving it close to stock, don't sweat the 6spd.

MR's come with the nice seats, alumium roof, Bilstein shocks, BBS wheels, and a 6spd.

I would recommend finding an SE... has all the MR stuff but with a 5spd.

GSR has a steel roof, Enkei wheels, other shocks, same seats w/out the red stitch, and 5spd.

RS is lightweight BBS wheels, alum roof, less sound deadening, etc

I would go for an Evo 9 so it has the nice seats, MIVEC, and ACD. Evo 9's came with a LSD in their front diff.

Ive driven Mitsubishis since 1998 even if it wasn't my main car i always had one registered. If you like driving it the first time it only gets better.
