Questions from a first time EVO buyer
Questions from a first time EVO buyer
Hey guys this is my first time on this site so I hope I found the right place to post this. I am currently in the market for an evo as my celica is over 12 years old and I'm just plain tired of it at this point haha.
I have been searching for about a month and have come up with a couple of top picks and I wanted to run them past you guys since you all probably have more experience in buying and owning EVO's you know what to look out for and whats shady.
My first choice right now is this White EVO 8 MR. The only complaints I have with it are the interior quality of the seats and the fact that the brembos appear to be heavily faded. Is this a sign that its been run extremely hard and is something to stay away from? The interior can always be redone and I'm sure the brakes can be repainted so those are very small issues if the rest of the car is in great shape and I love white!!!

My second choice is this very clean evo 9 but it has close to 100,000 miles which really puts me off even though its body seems to be in great shape. How do these cars hold up past 100k?

My third option is a little bit high in terms of price and I'm a little worried as to why he needed to install a stage 2 shep trans.....but I cant deny such low mileage for that price.

Basically if some of you guys could look at these three evos and tell me if any of them are worth my time I would appreciate it since I'm not really sure what to look out for when buying an EVO.

The Brembo's are known to fade with normal use, I wouldn't worry about that. 100k miles isn't that bad, the car should be fine as long as the car's been taken care of. Just keep in mind you might want to find out if the cars need timing belt/water pump service and maybe clutch. Those are the bigger maintenance items. You definitely want to drive the car before you buy it to make sure the tranny is shifting smoothly and that there is no T-Case whine. If the seller can show you service records that's a huge plus. Good luck

Bottom two links are same. I just bought one and knew how many miles i wanted and that i wanted bone stock. Takes a while but i found it. 03 bby 11k miles for 22k bone stock. Know what you want done to it and then find it.
i would get the 9, best value and its not like you will never drive the car.. its a really good price , i paid 16k for my 05 evo with 98xxx and its been nothing short of perfect in teh last year. 9s are going to be better in re sale as well.

I'm great at haggling haha. When I got my celica the guy wanted to sell it for $10,000 I got him down to 8,500! Your the one with the money so your the one with all the power, a lot of people forget that when purchasing a car.
Wouldnt the 8 MR best the best overall value though instead of a base model 9? I know the 8 is a year older but its a better spec model and the mileage is about the same.
Brakes are nothing to worry about. Which car you want depends on you goals. Are you going to mod it? How much HP do you want to end up with? Is it a commuter car or a weekend track machine? The 9 will have more hp with minimal mods. 100k milles isn't bad it its been maintained and you are ready to keep maintaining it. Id take the 9. but all three look decent, just a little high priced. Look in the for sale section here...

Looks like the brakes on the 8 and the mileage on the 9 are issues I dont need to worry about anymore. Instead i should probably test drive both, and then see which one I can get the best price on. I'm sure either way I will be a very happy camper at the end of the day.
This seems like a great community on here! Newcelica.org and its community was one of the big reasons I chose a celica so its great to see people are so helpful here on the evo forums thanks a lot guys I really appreciate it!

If you are keeping it stock then 8 MR or 9 Base would be the best bet.
Car will last as long as maintenance is on point. Got a few people over 100k/200k/300k going strong.

compression test...pull plugs...check for tranny whine...alittle in first can be normal...check rubber plug under driver side wheel well...plug can can come loose, and can let moisture get into ecu...happened to a friend...if all is good go 9...
