Basic Mods

Hello,
I am getting ready to buy my first mods for my 2008 evo x GSR and need some good opines. I’m looking to buy the cob tuner, intake, and cat back exhaust. Basic stuff. I’m not being lazy I’ve looked all over about these topics and I just haven’t found the answers I want or am looking for. I want to get an intake that holds its value and is made of quality materials. Also one that will benefit my car. I’ve herd AMS, AEM, Injen, and so on but I’m looking for reasons why. (Material of the pipe and size) I’m not crazy about the box or what’s legal or not. I’m leaning toward cold air. As far as the cob tuner I just want to know that it’s worth it. I would like to be able to have more than one map and flash on the go. Ivey Tune will be the place I’ll go after more mods. Lastly the exhaust I would like to stay away from the single look and something that sounds good (not a fart can). Also quality again, one that will last and benefit with the tune.

Thanks

AMS, AEM, and Injen are all great quality parts. I would recommend sticking to one brand for power mods, but most of them work well together anyway. I have ETS for exhaust and AMS HFC. Sounds amazing and they're holding up great. Tune is the icing on the cake and I would stick to one shop.

I was wondering if anyone had opions about having a SRI or CAI? also some intakes like the K&N use the stock inlet where Injen is off to the side. Any gain or loss?

do you live in an area that is prone to flooding? if it is , then don't get a CAI.
As far as why brands keep their value its simply its branding , craftsmanship and quality. Thats all.

If it was up to me personally I would just get the ETS SRI. it uses the stock MAF housing and essentially is a reputable brand.

AMS is expensive as far as an intake goes. But if you can find one cheap go for it. Just remember that you will need to retune it as it uses a different MAF housing.

here is my car with ETS V2 catback stock cat ( I'll put up the race pipe one eventually) and a AMS SRI:

Have fun

Thanks for the response i agree that the ams intake is alittle on the high side for an intake. Im comparing the Injen, K&N Typhoon, and the ETS. I think the Aem is out. Im not a fan of the red i have have plans to take all the red out of the lighting inside the car or i think i would have bought the K&N already.
