Soon to be EVO owner. Advice needed.
Hey there,
Ive been on the market for an evo for awhile now. My first choice is to get a low mileage IX SE or MR or the X GSR.
I found a GG IX SE with 23k miles on it for 25000. I am willing to pay the price but the problem is, the guy selling it has been doing all the services and fluid changes (using Amsoil products) by himself with no maintenance record. Should I be worried?
Any input will be greatly appreciated.

A do all the work on my car myself with no records. I trust the enthusiasts that know what they are doing over the dealer any day. You have to use your judgment wether or not you want to trust this guy. Good luck.
i would say it depends on the person really. if they know what they are doing, i think its definatly a good thing just like bobrick said.
But when you decide to sell it someday, it will have a small impact in the price.
Whether the person knows what hes doing or not, i prefer to purchase a car with maintenance record just to know that im safe.

Ask if he has reciepts? If you are that worried just get it and change out all the fluids when you get it home.
This is the one I would get if I were you https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sa...low-miles.html

If the car is obviously well taken care of, its a safe bet the routine maintenance was done. An easy test would be to ask him if/when he changed the rear diff fluid. Then check the drain plug bolt on the rear diff for signs of slight marking from being removed/reinstalled. Rear diff fluid should of been changed at 15k miles.

I do all my maintenance for a couple reasons, first of all I don't trust service stations and another reason is the kid working at the dealer typically doesn't own an evo so when he gets the chance to drive one he gives it hell
for 25k you can find an evo, with meticulous records and best bet is to buy from an evom member and ask around about the car.
as a buyer you dont get many chances in life to just throw away 25k and be in charge.. your the buyer take your time.

The SE model seems to be the car to own if you want a 9. Alum roof, stitched seats,5 speed and a front lip. Car enthusiasts generally take better care of their car then others.
Alot of people take care of their own cars and don't keep any of the records. I would take it to a shop and put it on a lift and have someone examine the car. Look for crash damage, missing vin tags, paintwork.
Mechanically, look for signs of bolts being turned on the downpipe or catback. This may indicate if the trans has been out or an exhaust was on the car.Good luck with it

Thank you so much for your reply guys, I was caught up with work that it took me awhile to reply. I really appreciate it.
I have a question, at 23500 miles, would there be any major part replacement coming up?
and if I do not end up getting this one, is it worth it to get something stock around 40000-50000 miles with service history at around the same price?

My exact thoughts, since im paying well over KBB values, service history (professionally done) would be a main factor to pulling the trigger in purchasing an evo.
