Getting my feet wet!

Hey guys, I just had a "life changing" experience. Little exaggeration but I just drove a friends evo IX and really really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the ride, and then started looking around for what people do to their evo's and slightly fell in love. I've been on the audi S4 side of the game for a while, and think this is the kinda car I needed to have a sway of opinion.

I searched some threads and read some stickys about basic upgrades, but since i'm honestly... absolutely clueless about this car, i'm looking to get a more direct answer of how much you've guys have put into your car and what kinda gains you get from it. I see plenty of insane horsepower amounts around 700+ but assume that is boat-loads of money and reliability is dramatically at risk.

So if you guys can shoot me some prices and basic upgrades evo's get. I love the evo IX body and wonder about that generation specifically.

Thanks guys!

If the floor is letting water in you obviously have a rust issue with the undercarriage

Basic mods like intake, turbo back exhaust, boost controller, intercooler piping and a tune and you'd really see a jump from its performance in stock form. A "safe" number around here for a daily driven car is 400/400. Depends on your tune but it's been shown to be reliable. But those numbers you'll need to go e85 or upgrade your turbo and/or cams.

I see the humor is lively over here...

And thanks mistaken that is just about everything I needed to know. The basic mods sound like they will plenty satisfy daily driving needs, although growing up with 2 brothers running 9 second cars theres always a want to go bigger hah. I am MOST definitely not saying I have any intention of this with an evo, but the concept of going bigger is always fun to consider. I'll stay active around here and see if I can get a grasp on prices and stuff.

Just jakes bro
What do you have a b5 s4? I'd love one but audi's and vw's kinda sketch me out from past experience.
The best thing about the evo is there is always ways to improve or go bigger as you said. Prices range all over the board from 12k to around 29k for used 8 and 9's. Clean ones are obviously harder to find now so really no all the facts about what you're looking for if you shop for one.
Great thread below on what to look out for and examine.

Haha! Much appreciation bro. I'll check out the thread right now, and really appreciate the price numbers. And yea a b5, Just a stage 2, so pre-turbo upgrade, which is a hefty penny. I love the idea of evo's can always go bigger. Thanks poppin!

Sweet egis, thats exactly what i was looking for. But never been one for used parts. So imagining a double price jump on that idea.

I would skip the basic bolt-ons and used crap.

Go straight to a GT91 on E85.

I agree with the above. E85 is a good route but an ethanol content sensor wouldn't be a bad idea for different blends.

On my DD IX, I have 4 bolt ons and a tune. I have a AMS Lower intercooler pipe, Full Turboback exhaust, JMF 02 Housing Dump, and a JMF 3" intake. I had the car tuned by Devin @ Boostin Performance and it's making 340whp/323TQ right now on 23PSI on 93 octane. Car is very quick for what it has on it. A few smart mods and a good tune can go along way

Sittin right around 338 whp with basic mods on my VIII, still have to re-dyno that as I've added a FMIC since then, so it'll probably be a bit higher.

Tune, intake, full exhaust, LICP, GSC S1 cams and a FMIC are the only power adders I've put on there so far. If you play your cards right and buy some used stuff, you can get most of the basic mods for pretty cheap. I'm only in 1200 bucks or so with those parts and it brought the car up from 230-240 whp to what it is now.
