Buying an evo. MILITARY FOLKS PLEASE COME IN!!!

Ha.

I guess I won't be making it back into the EVO world. I rather not buy from a dealer for a EVO ix as I can't stand the look of a EVO X.

So I used to be part of the NAVY and bank with them. They changed the method of how they deal with private sellers and you have to get a piece of shii check, go to the bank with the seller and deposit.

For some odd reason, I am informing the seller prior to going further that this is how my bank operates. I got back a pretty bad insult stating it was a "scam".

I don't have positive feedback on here for no damn reason. You can go to TRISTATEEVO and speak with the TSE President as Mike Ko has met with me in the past.

Can my other Military ACTIVE OR VET come in and just laugh with me? I mean am I out of line in feeling like that was an insult?

I did have to add that when I replied to his insult that I was part of the US Navy and not the AFRICAN Navy! hahahaha

To make it clear and not feel like I am leaving anything out, this is a copy and paste from my original message to the seller:

Payment: I go through a bank called Navy Federal Credit Union. I was in the Navy and recently they changed their method of payment to private sellers. They request full details such as name of seller, mileage, make, model, and VIN. They send me a cashier check that we both sign at your bank and I will wait for it to clear before picking up the keys and car. You have your money and I have my beautiful new EVO IX SE.

The main issue is that I will need to add the taxes, license, registration crap to the check that I give you and request for you to either create a check or cash the additional money.

Some sellers want instant satisfaction and dealt with that with a failed attempt to purchase the evo. I want you to know the full upfront payment method so if you do not agree with it then I can move on and I can just say GLWS.

Please let me know if this works and sorry about a lengthy email as I am a serious buyer but this is how my bank works.

Thank you,
Mike

Example:

I have to play a request to my bank for a 20k loan.

We will meet at YOUR bank and deposit plus create the bill of sale and I believe it must be notorized for New Jersey purposes. If you have TD bank it's free.

You will hit me up or wait til the following weekend which the check should normally clear within 24-48 hours but I might not have the ability to get up there during the week unless one of my bosses (major car enthusiast help me out).

When we meet up cars, keys and the 1.5k additional. 20k - the agreed 18.5k.

Sorry it's a little more steps than just cash but if you have a serious cash buyer by all means sell! Serious buyer as long as the car checks out as well.

Additionally, I am easily willing to have them go to the main website. NAVYFCU.ORG and contact them if they had any additional doubts. This isn't the first seller to not want to deal with this method but atleast the first seller didn't insult me with stating it was a "scam".

I guess I am over exaggerating thinking that everyone watches football/TV as they have recently been shown multiple times advertising.

the only way i would accept a cashiers check for $20k is if i went to the sellers bank and witnessed the cashiers check being issued. fake checks often clear initially but can be returned weeks or a month+ later. i guess calling the issuing bank and confirming the check + amount might also be acceptable.

sellers are always weary, but i wouldnt have jumped to insults after your original message.

does Navy FCU offer ACH transfers?

Navy Fed deposits the money in your account and you should determine how it is passed out. Certified check for 18.5k for the seller and the rest in your checking account for you to take care of taxes/registration/etc. Definitely a stretch for the seller to call you a scammer. If he is that paranoid you can just meet and head to the branch at Colt's Neck.

Bank with penfed. Navy fed is garbage rates and service.
Penfed offers 1.49percent for new and used for 5 yrs.
Or for over the top service no bs bank with usaa. Their rates are high but are bar none the best military bank.

No problems with usaa here either. Real easy and painless. Called them up, gave them the info, they sent out check, and as previously stated before, nice apr, and boom, I was driving home happiest guy ever haha.

Ah. I bank with NavyFed and they never given me problems getting loans etc so that is why I always stuck with them. I could try USAA but I am giving up dealing with private sellers. If I get lucky finding a dealership pricing it correctly and what I want. I'll be going with that since it's much easier to go with a dealership.

Otherwise, I'll just end up with a 2012-2013 Subaru WRX. Yes, it's not an EVO IX but I prefer the newer model subaru's vs the evo X. I have until May this year while I am saving up for downpayment etc so hopefully more news of the EVO XI comes out.

Colts neck to far south. I usually drive upto Kings Point, NY since it's closer. I may end up going to the Navy Academy instead since I'm right by nj/ny border of the city or westchester area to go that way. I would like to see how the Navy Academy looks for ****s and giggles anyway.

Just wanted to point out that the US is a country, Africa is a continent.

Selling privately is risky these days, I had a pucker moment when I sold my Z06, not sure I'll do it anymore. How solid is an ACH deposit, when the money hits your account, is it always there to stay?

But, overpaying, and wanting cash back, that would throw a flag for me too.

Definitely understand. If he or any seller does not approve of the having to deal with method of payment, I have no problem with the seller saying that I prefer not to have to deal with your method of payment.

I would have said, "Ok, GLWS and hope all goes well!"

To say, it is a scam without reading the logic. Well, then I feel a little insulted at stating something that is further than the truth.

[1] I am going to your bank to deposit
[2] I am waiting for the money to CLEAR before I even get to take the vehicle home
[3] Your bank can call my bank all they want
[4] You can call my bank all you want

You can even run a background check on me if you were so hesitant.

It's not polite as a seller to assume everyone on here is a jerk off trying to scam you. Others can vouch for you especially when we are in the same geographical area.

Logic tells you it is a scam when [a] the buyer does not want to meet with you in person, [b] trying to get the vehicle before cash clears, [c] other warning signs like bad ratings on the forum.

I, however, explain in the payment process that each possible scam potential is being cleared by the way the payment is handled.

Please if you are going to say you would through a flag or anything in that regard show me what part of the information given to the seller would throw you off? I would gladly change my information in the future if I plan to further pursue a private sale deal.

I am definitely moving over to a 2012-2014 Subaru Impreza WRX to switch it up a little, go through a dealer, and get a stock vehicle that I don't have to worry about what a previous owner did.

I guess the cash back thing is the only thing that would turn me off, I'd understand it, but it would still make me uncomfortable.

About a year ago, I really wanted an evo 9. I did all my research, and I knew what I wanted. I found one close by on autotrader, I was super excited. Then, I started to search the forums, found the guy that was selling it. I started to search his posts from when he bought the car. I was totally blown away, car was a rolling pile of poop that had never worked correctly and still didn't. If I wouldn't have searched, I would have bought a ticking time bomb for $25,000.

So I bought a new x.
