im in the market for a used evo, and i was wondering what the differences between the 3 "evolution's" those being 7,8 and 9. i know that the 8 and 9 are almost identical exept for the bumbers and i believe the 9 has a better turbo, i also have limted knowlage of the 7 and if things like what MR entails between the models. any help is appreciated thanks

 

It's difficult really finding a 7, better off trying to find an 8 or 9.

The 9 in addition to what you mentioned has MIVEC which employs the use of oil pressure on the intake cam to vary the profile of the cam.

The MR is equipped with better suspension (Bilstein), an aluminum roof, and a 6spd transmission and BBS wheels. MR's also came with the vortex diffuser on the roof and HID's. The 9 also has a much nicer interior, not that that really matters, but the 8's interiors are pretty bleh...unless you get an 8 with the SSL package. That comes with leather seats and a sun roof, a subwoofer also comes in the trunk.

A GSR Evo is just the base model, an RS is a stripped down version which weighs the least but is very minimalistic and is a good base for a track car. SE (special edition,9's only) came with red stitching in the seats.

Your in the US? you cant get a 7, unless you import one. Evo was not in the US until the 8

the biggest difference is a 9 has MIVEC heads and yes a slightly better turbo. Yes there were alot of cosmetic changes. Nicer interior exterior changes, front and rear bumpers, headlights, ect

 

no, a 9 is still a 4g63....

 

No, 4G63's were the only motor to ever come in the Evo from the factory.

4G64's were in Galants, Eclipses, etc.

 

I am in the us and I thought that there were only 8s and 9s here but i remember seeing a few 7s on Craigslist but they could have been typos or misinformed sellers. Also by nicer interior are you referring to the volt boost and oil pressure/temperature ( I forget which) and boost and some badges on the Mr and I'll I can see that has been changed between the 8 and 9 is the gauges and radio being switched
