From DSM's to Evo's
From DSM's to Evo's
Well, my name is Josh and I am currently in the Army stationed at Ft. Sill and DJ at electronic clubs in the Dallas area on most weekends but I am deployed as we speak for about another month or so.
I am not so much a noob as I am new to Evo's. I've been building DSM's since I was 15 (currently 23) and my best build was my last. A daily driven 1997 GSX with roughly 500 ponies.
I currently just purchased a black 2003 Evo 8 while I was over here and honestly cannot wait to drive it when I get back.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!

2003 Lancer Evolution VIII GSR
Now for the Evo.. I sold my DSM and was heartbroken and only had a few more months left deployed so I started searching for an Evo because I honestly need 4 doors and enjoy the look a lot more than DSM's..
So I stumbled across this steal..
It has a 2.3L stroker built by Abel Performance in MWC, OK but thats about it honestly.. It has under 100k on the clock and was untouched for the most part..
The sunroof motor is unplugged for some reason and the exhaust was all ghetto rigged up because the rear hanger broke off.. Also I bought the car with the stock turbo that had QUITE a bit of lateral shaft play..
My plans for it are up in the air right now but FP has never failed me so I am thinking about going for a roughly 500hp build..
Anyways, its nice to meet you all! Happy posting.

Nice to see another dsmer getting into the evo game. I too just sold my dsm (98 gsx) and bought an evo. Im concidering doing a build blog as my evo has a blown motor. But I wish you good luck with yours.
this most be a dsm crew. i also had a black 98 gsx in 2011 before selling it for a black EVO 8. welcome and enjoy your new evo. Thanks for serving from another vet like me.

Welcome bro, you'll love you're evo more than any of your DSM's cause not only does it accelerate fast... but it turns and brakes just as well (something my DSMs never did). Also, everything is stronger and flows better; such as the block, head, trans, rear end, transfercase.... everything.
Something sounds fishy though, a 2.3L stroker but everything else is stock? Sounds like this car may have had a big turbo and lots of bolt-ons then was stripped and sold in "stock" form. None the less, enjoy and welcome!

Thanks for the warm welcome, man.
I'm also always willing to talk to another vet.. Thanks for the welcome, brother.I feel you on that. Those cars are very addictive.
Thanks! I have big plans for this one.

Another DSMer here (95 TSi AWD). Just got into the Evo last weekend. It's funny to see a bunch of familiar names on the EvoM site that I know from being on DSMTalk for the last 10 years.
Good luck with the car, man. This site has a ton of useful information as long as you know how to search. I've been pretty much glued to it for the last couple of weeks. The nice thing with owning a 10 year old car is that a lot of trials/errors have already been made so you can cherry pick the best mods without having to learn the expensive way.
Oh, and good looking GSX, too.
