Catless exhaust but no flames?

Hey guys,

I have a testpipe and catback on my car with a tune, but my car doesn't shoot fireballs. Does that mean my tuner is extremely good that's why my car doesn't spit flames? I was under the impresssion that my car would shoot some fireballs after the tune with 11.5 AFR.

Another thing I notice is at high gears such as 4th or 5th i get turbo flutter on wot. Especially when going wot at high speeds on the freeway. This was happening before and the tune and after. Is this normal?

Thanks!!

Im at the same AFR actually a little richer and don't shoot flames, dont worry about it. As far as the turbo flutter what do you mean? No boost, flutter sound?

It is boosting and my boost gauge shows that it is holding boost but it doesn't sound like how the car does in lets say a 3rd third pull going 40. Its not a bov flutter sound or anything it just happens wot in 4th or 5th gear on the freeway. Like if I accelerate from 3 or 4k rpms on 5th gear going 65 its a flutter type of spool.

Thanks!

Ease into the gas pedal slower in 4th and 5th on the highway.. see if it still does it. That doesn't sound right though. Mine is a smooth spool WOT.

I have a test pipe with no muffler and I can only spit flames when i hit the rev limiter. Mind you, the flames are very large considering i'm only putting down 300 hp on a mustang dyno. The only times i usually hit the limiter is when i launch and shift from 1st to 2nd. If i rev out to 7.1 or 7.2k rpms, the engine will usually bounce off the limiter during the shift from 1st to 2nd (i have the sst), and you can hear a decently loud pop. At night i can see the light illuminated by the flames.

Honestly i'm not sure if spitting flames like that is healthy for the turbo as it kinda serves the function of anti-lag setups in race cars.

the flutter thing is due to being at low rpms in 5th gear you will have a much higher load than in lower gears. WOT in 5th gear going 65mph @ 3000rpms will do that. i bet if you dropped a gear you wouldnt get that because you will be at a higher rpm already or get up to 4k and above rpm's and then WOT and see what happens.

So tell me how does a fresh air/fuel mix magically get past a 1600 degree exhaust manifold to ignite at the end of an exhaust system?

I do occasionally get it at 4.5k as well going WOT. It holds boost strong though so it should be good.

1st. as far as im concerned, back firing is not good for the car.

2nd I have the same problem with the flutter but only on 5th gear, but you have to remember ours cars are not built to pull hard on 5th as they do on 2-3rd...and since its doing it after the tune, have the person who did the tune look into it
