Should i buy An evo or Dsm or subie?
I have 14,000 to spend on a car should i Get an evo
An evo has always been my dream car but i recently been looking a eclipse gsx as a cheaper alternative. also i always liked a wrx but next to an evo it looks like
****.
I know most of you at first will say an evo but can i get a decent one for $14,000 i seen allot on craigslist for in that range that look good. i don't feel like replacing an engine in a mouth nor can afford it. $14,000 is pushing my budget. i am only 19 and i managed to save 8k cash and my lancer will sell for $4,500 then i can loan the rest with my **** credit just starting out and all. why I try to keep most in my savings for my school cost. my only bills are car and school I live as home expenses free. I have not started school yet don't have a clue in what i want to do with my life to much focused on my goal to get a Car. It is bit of an bad addiction.
I gess what i really ask are the hidden cost of owning an Evo?
thank you for the help.
As that said I may be looking to buy an Evo in the next few mouths in the ohio region will travel 4 hours. $14k
I have been looking into this one

That is a pretty good deal if he has all the receipts to prove the rebuild. Buschur makes high quality parts for evos I stand by everything he has done. That seems like a great deal but definitely find out what kind of afrs he gets at idle and wot.
You know thay coming on an evo forum and asking which you should get will always get bias towards evo haha

The Evo is the best choice, hands down. You're going to need to save for clutches because they go out every now and then. Also, save for tires since you're going to want to push it out of every corner.
get the subie!! love me that rumble.
But in all seriousness depends on what you plan to do with the car, call me crazy but if you're going to leave it stock get the subie they just ride so much better. My brother has an 04 STI and while yes I can beat him in almost anything my 03 Evo just rides so much rougher than his, and the turning radius is way better on the STI. But if you plan to mod then hands down get the evo.
Stay away from DSM they are cheaper but in my honest opinion not worth it when you can find a good evo/sti for around 14g

DSM.
Every WRX I've seen has a glass transmission. 5 in the past year, three in the past 4 months, all with stock turbos with simple bolt-on modification. Simple maintenance is also more of a pain to do. Not much room to change spark plugs, and getting the timing belt properly timed requires a special cam holding tool(s).
As mullen just mentioned, any Evo that cheap has been beat on, and is bound to have issues. These are not cheap cars to fix, but what do I know, I drive a Honda
. But, there's a reason the person is selling it for that cheap. It might be a legit price, considering what it will need to be properly fixed. A friend of mine thought he got an amazing deal on his Evo 8, it was quite a bit less that $14K, because it "just needed some body work". He bought cams, bigger turbo, IC & piping, balance shaft delete. While the car was getting tuned, the engine started ticking. Corner of the inside part of the head was welded for an unknown engine (no crack or welds on the outside), rocker arms were damaged, and all the bearings were toast. The one in the link you posted alone, already rebuilt and overbored. Clearly was beat on enough to damage the engine. Think about all the other parts on the car that suffered from that abuse as well. Also prepare to spend $200+ for OE Mitsubishi transmission & transfer case oil, to go along with the clutch and tires you'll be replacing.
A DSM is in the similar boat as the Evo, but they are older, cheaper, and more plentiful. That's really the only reason I'd chose one of those over either of the other 2.

With only $14,000 i'd recommend a very clean dsm or a 02/03 bug eye wrx. You're not getting a good evo for that price. Plus if you get a DSM for around $5000 you can pretty much dump 9k into making it absolute perfection.
Having owned 12 DSM's, 2 Evo's and others, I would say the DSM is a solid pick. Make sure you don't buy from some immature kid who has a big turbo with no supporting mods. The best bet would be to find one as close to stock as possible.
I love both Evo's and DSM's but if I had to keep one over the other it would be my DSM. They are cheaper all around to own and as long as you do the proper maintenance and take care of it. Don't throw a big *** turbo on it and run the ***** off of it or you will have issues. You will find a DSM is $500/year for insurance and an evo is $1000/year.
It isn't what I would do, it's what I have already done. When I was 19 I wanted an Evo, but it wasn't realistic as I didn't have that kind of money. I bought a 98 GSX w/ 170k miles for $3k. I still have my first car but have had many since. Eventually I worked my way up to an Evo when I turned 22 and now I own both. What you will find is that if you have a decent experience with your first DSM you will never be able to get out of them.
